PROJECT: Nizhoni Homes

Our Story

God when He wants something done He looks for people to do His mission and work. We named our church Destiny Center International. We did not realize at the time all that God would be doing with Destiny Center. We have an amazing lady in our church who is Navajo. She is from a community on the Tonalea Navajo Reservation. This area has been subject to political control with laws passed over 50 years ago. This law has been canceled out and is known as,” The Former Bennett Freeze.” This area is about 1.5 million acres with about 8,000 people affected. This law forbid the people of this area from building homes, making home improvements, everything just stayed frozen in time for 50 years.

Cindy Covey who is Navajo decided to take Pastor Yvonne Lephiew to see the impact of this FREEZE and the living conditions. 3 days they stayed with temperatures at 17 degrees. Freezing cold, no indoor plumbing, no restroom but an outhouse that you had to walk about 50 yards too. The only heat was from a little wood burning stove and a oil lanterns because of no electricity.

Pastor Yvonne called Pastor Joseph Lephiew her husband and was frantic. She said,” We support mission and projects in Third World Countries but this is in our own back yard. This poverty and suffering is here in Arizona! This is happening is America and nothing is really being done about it. That was the beginning of our ministry/support to the people of Tonalea Navajo Reservation.

Cindy Covey has the heart and we joined our faith to MAKE THIS DREAM A REALITY. This is our ministry motto, DESTINY CENTER WHERE YOUR DREAMS BECOME YOUR REALITY. How by renewing the mind, which transforms the life. Dreams are created out of such transformations. It is our heart to help repair and heal the hearts of this Nation.

This is just the beginning of what God wants to do for His people on the Navajo Reservation. Hundreds of homes are needed, but we started and will continue to Believe God and His Word.

We have seen the hand of God come through for the people of Tonalea and this project. The President of Navajo Nation signed into legislation the go ahead for our pilot project. The first 15 homes are being purchased and soon in the next few months the worst homes will be replaced.

The housing project has allowed us to share Gods Love and Faith with the people of the Tonalea Reservation. Cindy Covey and Pastors Yvonne & Joseph Lephiew and the Destiny Center Int. church body have embraced this long term ministry.

“What is the benefit, my fellow believers, if someone claims to have faith but has no [good] works [as evidence]? Can that [kind of] faith save him? [No, a mere claim of faith is not sufficient–genuine faith produces good works.] If a brother or sister is without [adequate] clothing and lacks [enough] food for each day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace [with my blessing], [keep] warm and feed yourselves,” but he does not give them the necessities for the body, what good does that do? So too, faith, if it does not have works [to back it up], is by itself dead [inoperative and ineffective].”
