1. What is a partnership? An arrangement in which people engage in an activity or business with one another or share something with each other.
Partner: one associated with another especially in an action. One of two or more people who run a business together. A person who does or shares something with another. Either one of a married couple.
Partner speaks of a relationship working together, sharing together the work and responsibilities. So a partnership is a group of people in a relationship with a common goal, mission, vision that come together to work, build, service together. WORK TOGETHER.
Jesus would share the GoodNews of the Kingdom of God to people. Not just so they could get fire insurance, but to enlist them into His Partnership to spread the Good News of the Kingdom.
A PARTNERSHIP WAS MUCH MORE THAN A MERE BELIEF. THIS PARTNERSHIP INVOLVED A HUGE COMMITMENT.
YOU CAN NOT BE IN PARTNERSHIP WITHOUT THE COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP. THIS PARTNERSHIP INVOLVES DEEP COMMITMENT. THIS PARTNERSHIP INVOLVES GIVING UP THINGS FOR THE GREATER.
COMMITMENT: an agreement or promise to do something in the future. Synonyms like allegiance, devotion, dedication, faithfulness, fidelity, loyalty.
This partnership is much deeper than just a belief we say we believe.
COMMIT: to obligate or pledge oneself. It also express the general idea of delivering into another's charge or the special sense of transferring to a superior power or to a special place of custody.
Remember the Christians, Believers would come and receive and then go back home.
It was the Disciples who would follow with Jesus. The disciple would live, serve, work with and financially support the Kingdom Work of Jesus.
There is a huge difference between Disciples and believers/Christian’s. What separates them is commitment.
Vince Lombardi said, "Individual commitment to a group effort—that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work."
Abraham Lincoln said, “Commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality.”
Jean-Paul Sartre said, “Commitment is an act, not a word.”
Proverbs 16:3 AMP “Commit your works to the Lord (submit and trust them to Him), And your plans will succeed (if you respond to His will and guidance).”
Psalms 37:5 AMP. “Commit your way to the Lord; Trust in Him also and He will do it.”
I commit or pledge my works. Works are the things you do. Work, ministry, service, etc.
I commit my way to the Lord. Way is your life, the directions of your life, your inside life. How you live your life. For Him or for You.
When Jesus fed the 5000 they all came to get and receive. There is nothing wrong with getting and receiving but it must be balance. They all came to just receive because when Jesus was ready to go to the other side he instructed the disciples and those who were following him to get into the boats.
The receivers stopped at the rivers edge. Receivers stopped at the edge of giving. Getting into the boats would cost them. It would cost them their time, energy, money, self interest.
Remember the story of the woman who came in and broke the expensive oil and anointed Jesus feet. The disciples were having a fit saying this could of been sold and the money used to buy food to feed the poor. What does Jesus do? He rebukes and teaches them truths. Jesus said the poor you will always have but me its only a short while.
She was a giver, the poor were receivers. She followed and served with Jesus as was the commitment of the others who were disciples.
3. DIFFERENT CALL DIFFERENT PEOPLE:
Matthew 9:9 AMP. As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew (Levi) sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me [as My disciple, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk].” And Matthew got up and followed Him.”
Last week we seen Jesus calling Peter and Simon his brother who were fishermen. Remember Jesus said follow me and I will make you fishermen fishers of men.
Here Jesus is calling a different person from a different background. Jesus comes Matthew sitting in a tax collectors booth.
Matthew is a tax collector. Tax collectors were hated in biblical times and were regarded as sinners. They were Jews who worked for the Romans, so this made them traitors. People resented paying taxes to the foreigners who ruled over them.
No one wanted anything to do with tax collectors.
Jesus does not just call the business people like Peter and Simon. Here He calls Matthew who is a despised tax collector.
Matthew heeds the call. Leaves everything to follow Jesus. Here is a Disciple. Willing to give it all up to follow Jesus. To live like Jesus and serve and support Jesus in His Kingdom work.
PARTNERSHIP WITH JESUS TRUE DISCIPLE OF CHRIST.
PETER WAS A FISHERMAN. JESUS SAID FOLLOW ME AND I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN. LOOK AT THE CALLING OF MATTHEW THE TAX COLLECTOR.
MATTHEW GOES FROM FOLLOWING JESUS AS HIS DISCIPLE TO HAVING DINNER AT HIS HOUSE WITH JESUS AND OTHERS.
Matthew 9:10 AMP. “Then as Jesus was reclining at the table in Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners [including non-observant Jews] came and ate with Him and His disciples.“
PETER WOULD BECOME A FISHER OF MEN. MATTHEW WOULD ATTRACT TAX COLLECTORS AND SINNERS. ALL THE PEOPLE THE RELIGIOUS JEWS DESPISED AND LOOKED DOWN ON. THEY WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THESE TYPES OF PEPLE.
REMEMBER JESUS USING WOMEN WHO SERVED WITH HIM. IT AND THIS WOULD SHAKE UP THE WAY PEOPLE SEEN THE CHURCH. THE JEWS ONLY WOULD BE WITH THEMSELVES, NO MIXING WITH OTHERS. JESUS OPENS UP HIS KINGDOM AND CHURCH TO ALL PEOPLE.
JESUS IS CALLING YOU FISHERMAN, TAX COLLECTOR, STUDENT, HOUSE WIFE, SINGLE MOM, OUTCAST, MARY MAGDALENE TO FOLLOW HIM AND BE HIS DISCIPLE.
Matthew 9:11 AMP. “When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners?””
THE JEWS CAN’T FIGURE THIS JESUS OUT. THE PHARISEES CAN’T FIGURE THIS JESUS OUT. HE USES WOMEN, BUSINESS MEN, OUTCAST, TRAITORS, ANYONE AND ALL WHO PICK UP YOUR CROSS AND FOLLOW HIM.
Matthew 9:12 AMP. “But when Jesus heard this, He said, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but [only] those who are sick.”
JESUS HEARD WHAT THEY WERE ASKING ALL THESE QUESTION WHY HE EATS WITH THESE KIND OF PEOPLE. JESUS SAID THE HEALTHY HAVE NO NEED FOR A PHYSICIAN.
BUT ONLY THOSE WHO ARE SICK.
IN OUR WORLD EVERYONE IS SICK, BUT IF THEY DON’T SEE THEMSELVES AS SICK THEY SEE NO NEED FOR JESUS. JESUS DID NOT COME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE IN HIM. HE CAME FOR THOSE WHO WOULD BELIEVE. WHO NEEDED A DOCTOR. WHO NEEDED HEALING. WHO NEEDED HOPE, WHO NEEDED THEIR WOUNDS HEALED. WHO NEEDED HELP GETTING BACK UP AND LIVNG AGAIN. WHO NEEDED SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN THEM AGAIN
Matthew 9:13 AMP. “Go and learn what this [Scripture] means: ‘I desire compassion [for those in distress], and not [animal] sacrifice,’ for I did not come to call [to repentance] the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to change], but sinners [those who recognize their sin and actively seek forgiveness].”
WE NEED TO GO AND LEARN WHAT THIS MEANS. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
ISIAHA SPOKE THIS AND JESUS READ THIS.
Luke 4:18 AMP. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah), Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy),”
THIS MESSAGE IS TO THE POOR. POOR NO MORE.
THIS MESSAGE IS TO THE CAPTIVES. ANNOUNCE RELEASE PARDON, FORGIVENESS.
THIS MESSAGE IS TO THE BLIND. SIGHT RECOVERY, BLIND NO MORE.
THIS MESSAGE IS TO THE OPPRESSED. SET FREE THE OPPRESSED, NO MORE OPPRESSION.
WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST. HIS HOLY SPIRIT LIVES INSIDE OF US. HIS SPIRIT IS THE CONTROLLER OF OUR BODY. HIS SPIRIT IS SAYING THIS IS PURPOSE OF JESUS COMING AND WE NEED TO LET HIS SPIRIT MOVE AND USE OUR BODY, MIND, HANDS, HEART, MOUTH TO FULFILL THIS WORD EVERYDAY OF OUR LIVES. THIS IS A DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST. AMEN
