Sermon: Giving Thanks-THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving means a public acknowledgment or celebration of divine goodness, the act of giving thanks, a prayer expressing gratitude.

Thanks means kindly or grateful thoughts, gratitude, something is done or said to express thanks.

THANKS, IS SOMETHING DONE OR SAID TO EXPRESS THANKS. THIS IS WHAT THANKS GIVING IS, IT IS THE GIVING OF THANKS.

THIS IS WHY WE SAY THANK YOU TO SOMEONE WHO HAS HELPED US OR GAVE US SOMETHING.

Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.

He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” Epictetus

Thank you̕ is the best prayer that anyone could say. I say that one a lot. Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding.

THANKS INVOLVES GIVING. TAKERS ARE NOT THANKERS, TAKERS ARE NOT GIVERS.

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THANKSGIVING THE GIVING OF THANKS.

Thanksgiving is an action word. It is all about giving. If you separate the words you have THANKS & GIVING. GIVING COMES FROM THANKS.

2 Corinthians 9:10 AMP.“Now He who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed for sowing [that is, your resources] and increase the harvest of your righteousness [which shows itself in active goodness, kindness, and love].”

God created us to give. He created us to be givers, not takers.

He provides seed for the sower and bread for food.

God provides seed. Stop. He gives every person alive children, teens, and adults seeds to sow.

To the people who say I don’t have anything to give, that is not true. God gives every human seed.

THE KEY IS WHAT DO WE DO WITH OUR SEED? GOD SAYS HE GIVES SEED TO SOW, THIS IS CREATE MORE SEED TO MULTIPLY WHAT YOU HAVE IN SEED. HE THEN GIVES SEED TO BECOME BREAD TO EAT.

YOUR SEED HAS TWO PURPOSES. ONE IS TO CREATE AND INCREASE YOUR SEEDS AND THE OTHER IS TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR PERSONAL NEEDS.

THE CHALLENGE IS MOST PEOPLE WHO EAT BOTH THEIR SEEDS & WILL NOT INCREASE. GOD SAID HE GIVE SEED TO SOW FOR INCREASE. THIS IS THE SEED OF TITHING AND OFFERINGS.

HE CAN AND WILL MULTIPLY THIS AREA OF HONORING GOD. WHEN WE GIVE OF OUR INCREASE 10% PLUS WE HONOR GOD.

Proverbs 3:9 AMP.“Honor the LORD with your wealth And with the first fruits of all your crops (income);”

When we give of our wealth and income we honor God.

HONOR: outward respect, a person whose character and accomplishments bring respect or fame, to regard or treat (someone) with respect and admiration.

Psalms 96:8 AMP. “Ascribe to the LORD the glory of His name; Bring an offering and come into His courts.”

The proper protocol when coming before a King is you would bring an offering, you would never come and not bring a gift. This is where we get out offerings. Every service we should be prepared to come before our King with our tithes and offerings.

It sets a tone for God to move in a much larger capacity and for you to receive with a much larger heart.

Giving involves being prepared. We should honor our God by being prepared to give to our King.

1 Corinthians 16:2 AMP. “On the first day of every week, each one of you is to put something aside, in proportion to his prosperity, and save it so that no collections [will need to] be made when I come.”[1]

When we are walking and living in this are called THANKSGIVING WE ARE MOVING IN ACTION OF OUR LOVE AND HONOR OF GOD. WE ARE PREPARED TO GIVE.

GOD SHOULD ALWAYS GET OUR BEST NOT OUR LEFTOVERS OR SCRAPS.

GRATEFUL PEOPLE ARE GIVERS, UNGRATEFUL AND FEARFUL PEOPLE ARE TAKERS.

2 Corinthians 9:10 AMP.“Now He who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed for sowing [that is, your resources] and increase the harvest of your righteousness [which shows itself in active goodness, kindness, and love].”

GIVING IS SEEN. GIVING IS ACTION. GIVING SHOWS UP IN OUR ATTITUDES, AND BEHAVIOR. GIVERS ARE HAPPIER. GIVERS ARE JOYFUL. GIVERS LIVE LONGER.

INCREASE THE HARVEST OF YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. WHICH SHOWS ITSELF INACTIVE GOODNESS, KINDNESS, AND LOVE.

GIVING CREATES THESE AMAZING CHARACTERS WITHIN YOU. YOU WILL SEE GOODNESS, KINDNESS, AND LOVE IN THE LIFE OF TRUE GIVERS.

As you keep your mind and heart focused in the right direction, approaching each day with faith and gratitude, I believe you will be empowered to live life to the fullest and enjoy the abundant life He has promised you!" - Victoria Osteen

A basic law: the more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale

2 Corinthians 9:11 AMP. “You will be enriched in every way so that you may be generous, and this [generosity, administered] through us is producing thanksgiving to God [from those who benefit].”

2 Corinthians 9:11 NCV. “He will make you rich in every way so that you can always give freely. And your giving through us will cause many to give thanks to God[1] .”

There are two examples we want to look at.

There is the teaching of THE RICH YOUNG RULER. He came to Jesus asking what he must do for Eternal Life, Salvation. Then he asked about following Christ’s commandments, he felt he did them all. He made this statement that he has followed All the commandments since his youth.

HE BELIEVES HE HAS DONE EVERYTHING TO PLEASE GOD. HE IS REALLY A GOOD PERSON. JESUS SAYS GO AND SELL EVERYTHING AND FOLLOW ME AND BE MY DISCIPLE.

Matthew 19:22 AMP.“But when the young man heard this, he left grieving and distressed, for he owned much property and had many possessions [which he treasured more than his relationship with God].”

NOTICE HE LEFT GRIEVING AND DISTRESSED FOR HE OWNED MUCH AND HAD MANY POSSESSIONS. WHICH HE TREASURED MORE THAN HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

TREASURED MORE THAN HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. Matthew 6:21 AMP.“for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.”

Jesus was teaching about storing up treasure here on earth versus storing treasure up in Heaven. He was not saying we are to have nothing. He was showing that stuff, wealth should never have control over our hearts and life. God wants us to be blessed and have stuff. He does not want stuff to have us.

The rich young ruler treasured the stuff more than his relationship to God. He was challenged by Jesus to give it all. He could not. He chose not to. His treasure was the wealth and stuff. This is where his heart was.

You can tell because he could not give what Jesus asked him to. He chose stuff instead of a relationship with Jesus.

"Looking up, He saw the rich people putting their gifts into the treasury. And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins. He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in [proportionally] more than all of them; for they all put in gifts from their abundance; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Luke 21:1-4 AMP

Look, JESUS saw the people’s giving. God watches our giving. He saw the rich giving but what got Jesus’s attention?

The proportion of what they gave compared to what they kept. Jesus said she gave more than all of the rich. The rich gave out of their abundance.

Luke 21:4 KJV.“For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.”

SHE CAST IN ALL THE LIVING THAT SHE HAD. WHERE IS HER TREASURE COMPARED TO THE RICH YOUNG RULER.

GOD IS NOT AGAINST RICH OR WEALTHY PEOPLE. MANY OF GODS GREAT LEADERS WERE WEALTHY. THE DIFFERENCE IS THEY VALUED THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD MORE IMPORTANT THAN THEIR WEALTH. THEY SHOWED IT IN THEIR GIVING AND SERVICE.

THEY HONORED GOD WITH ALL THAT THEY HAD.

Matthew 6:24 AMP. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].”

Mammon is an enemy of God. It fights to compete for the heart, focus, attention, control of people, God's People.

God says that there are two masters. God and Mammon. One is God Value and the other is self-value.

David helped to build the tabernacle for God. He gave of his wealth and position to build it for God.

Joseph used his wealth and position to take care of God’s people while in Egypt.

Zacchaeus, in Luke 19, is the story of a transformed giver. I love this story: a tax collector forsaking the norm in order to give — moved by Jesus’ call to come back to God’s ways.

This is the story of someone who Transforms from “collector of money” to “giver of money”!

The little boy who gave Jesus his fish and loaves.

Their giving sprung from a heart full of Thanksgiving.

“The generous man [is a source of blessing and] shall be prosperous and enriched, And he who waters will himself be watered [reaping the generosity he has sown].”

Proverbs 11:25 AMP

Luke 8:2-3 NCV.“and also some women who had been healed of sicknesses and evil spirits: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out; Joanna, the wife of Cuza (the manager of Herod’s house); Susanna; and many others. These women used their own money to help Jesus and his apostles.”

The greatest and most liberal givers are those who are so grateful to God.

THIS IS TRUE THANKS & GIVING = THANKSGIVING
