SERIES: Back To Basics: 6. Christian Lifestyle

Sermon Notes

We have been going back to the basics of Christianity. When we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior going back to the basics of the Christian life and lifestyle. We can get so far away from the beginnings that we soon forget what it was originally was all about. We get caught up doing life that we can easily move away from the areas of Christianity and just do life. We get busy with life, families, business that we forget how we are supposed to live and represent Jesus.

Vince Lombardi said to his team the Green Bay Packers at the beginning of the new football season and say, “This is a football.”

Back to Basics of Christianity we covered the benefits of church attendance and belonging to a church family. There is power in community. We went back to prayer. Prayer is so much more than just treating God like Santa, prayer is communication where we share and then we Listen to God. Being still and hearing God for His wisdom, His answers, His ideas, His plans for our lives. We went back to basics of the power and necessity of His Word. Word is a map, guide into knowing our God. Information and knowledge to create life, family, wealth, health, success. Back to Basics of giving, tithes and offerings. We discovered a much deeper truth in the PRINCIPLE OF FIRST. Cain and Abel Abel gave God his finest and First. Cain gave his leftovers. Is our giving leftovers after all the bills paid or we giving our finest and first. Last week it was a life witness. We as Christians are called to model the life of a believer. Its not what we call our selves it is what do and how we live. Our life is a witness. Any one asking about God oar where you go to church based on your life witness. Share your faith and invite them to church, could be the thing that changes their lives.

Life witness today Is Christian Life and lifestyle. Your witness comes from your lifestyle.

When we got saved and started going to church we got preached to and given a list of do’s and don’ts. This is not the way Jesus did it. Jesus called people to follow him and watch what He did, watched how He loved, watched how He served, watched how He gave. To see and feel His compassion and love that He shared and showed. Jesus lived this life in front of His disciples so they could live the way He lived and do the things He did for the people.

LIFE: the ability to grow, change, etc., that separates plants and animals from things like water or rocks:

The “Collins English Dictionary” defines “lifestyle” as a set of attitudes, habits or possessions associated with a particular person or group. Your lifestyle can be healthy or unhealthy, positive or negative, Godly or ungodly.

Life is the ability to grow and change. Lifestyle attitudes, habits, and possessions associated with a person. Your attitudes and habits and possessions will be based on your life. You choose the lifestyle. Many claim to be Christian but the life and lifestyle say different. We are not perfect people but we are redeemed people who the characteristic of a believer is someone who wants to Please God.

Christian attitude and habits. Coming to church, reading your word, prayer to your God and listening to Him, sharing your faith with others and giving and living the principle of First and giving God your finest should be the attitudes and habits of Christian believers who love God and who are seeking to please Him.

“But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.” GALATIANS 5:22-23 AMP

We are looking at this from a different point of view. I grew up in church and all they would preach was the verses above this one and it was the deeds of the flesh. We were all so scared we were going to hell if we messed up. Christ has made us free, but He warns us with our freedom not to use it to become enslaved again to our sinful nature. God says use our freedom to serve others and do good for God.

We will focus on the fruits of the Spirit. If you know what you should have as results you don’t have to focus on the negatives. The fruit. Fruit is what is produced from your life. The results of His presence within us. WE WANT RESULTS. Matthew 15:8 “the people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” People who just go thru the religious motions of christianity will not have the real life changing results. If you want RESULTS IN YOUR WALK WITH GOD, WALK, TALK, AND DO WHAT HE SAYS TO DO.

The Results of His Presence within us is LOVE. UNSELFISH CONCERN FOR OTHERS. Gods love cause you to care about people. This inner love will cause you to pick up people for church, visit them when they are ill or sick. This love cares, this love is selfless, not about you.

The Result of His Presence Within Us is JOY, INNER PEACE. All hell can be breaking loose yet you have a calm and peace in your heart. We loose it when we focus on what is going on around us instead of who is in us. “GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN YOU THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD.

The Result of His Presence Within Us is PATIENCE. Not the ability to wait, but how we act while we wait. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. It is trusting God, Waiting on Him instead of trying to make it happen because we are to afraid to trust and have faith.

The Result of His Presence Within Us is kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things their is no law.

“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.” GALATIANS 5:24 AMP

It is my heart to please my Lord. I am not always successful at this, but it is in my heart and life to be. When you belong to Jesus you crucify daily your sinful, selfish, nature. We all have this nature, but we also have this Holy Spirit. It is a battle at times we all know. Which ever one you feed the most and the best will grow and become your controller, your master. God or your flesh. In Romans the 7 chapter you can read of the struggle between our two natures. He says what I want to do i do not do, what i don’t want to do i do.

Remember the Word from last Sunday. Acts 1:8 “You shall receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” The Fruit of the Spirit——-The Results of His Presence Within Us we shall receive Power and Ability. We have the power of Love, Joy, Patience, We have the ability of Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, SELF-CONTROL.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS GROWING WITHIN AND WITHOUT OF A LIFE WHO REALLY WANTS TO PLEASE GOD. We fail, we fall, but when the Spirit is within We get up and ask forgiveness and go back to pleasing God. The things we do on the outside come naturally when the Heart is surrendered and submitted to The Lord Jesus Christ. I come to church because i want to grow in God. I pray because I want to grow in my relationship with God. I read His Word because I want to know my God who loves me and believes in me. I give to my God, because he gave me everything and just ask for a little bit back. He gave me life and more. I share my faith because I want everyone to feel what I feel. To know the peace and joy i have. To live a life of victory and not fear. To have purpose and not sink in depression.

“If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage–our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit].” GALATIANS 5:25 AMP

THE RESULTS OF HIS PRESENCE WITHIN US: Personal Integrity: quality of being honest and strong moral principles. Godly Character: the way you think, feel and behave. When all alone who you are. Moral courage: :  mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty “We must not become conceited, challenging or provoking one another, envying one another.” GALATIANS 5:26 AMP Conceited: egotistical, vain, pride
