Rethinking Your Life Part 7

Sermon Notes:

RETHINKING LOVE AND PAIN:

This is the last message in our series, “RETHINKING YOUR LIFE.”

I had to message but only one Sunday to end it. I had Rethinking your love and Rethinking your pain.

I was praying and it was as though God spoke Love and Pain go together. Because you can not have one without the other.

We live in a world where everyone wants love. We were created to love and be loved. Pain on the other hand no one wants it. We try everything we can to avoid it. Love and Pain are both teachers of each other.

Many people who chose to love when they got pain over time have given up on love because the pain was so painful. So people choose to allow pain over and over in hopes of love.

I believe God has a perfect balance. I want to love but God did not create me to be a doormat for people to wipe their feet on me. Pain comes with love but not abuse. There is a healthy balance and then there are things that are way out of balance.

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”

Romans 8:28 AMP

1. GOD CARES:

Pain has a purpose. “Pain doesn’t just show up in our lives for no reason. It’s a sign that something needs to change.”

When I read this Word when I am going through painful times it is a comfort to know that God cares.

AND WE KNOW WITH GREAT CONFIDENCE THAT GOD IS DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT US.

Many times when we are in painful situations it is so easy to not see or feel God. Many times the pain, hurt, or suffering is so intense that we can not see or feel anything else but the pain.

Pain has a purpose. As I get older and I feel pain it shows me where there is a problem. It shows me where I need attention.

What is Pain telling you? Stop making the same mistakes. Stop trusting in yourself. Stop putting yourself in those hurtful places. Run to God, not your flesh.

2. GOD’S GOTTA PLAN FOR YOU:

I have seen so many painful events in my life and yes when it was happening I would wonder why. I would search painfully for answers and many times when I was in it I could not get clarity or understanding why.

We all have the ability to choose. Many times the choices we make in the heat of the moment, what we say or do can cause so much pain for us and others.

When I read of David in his times of suffering the things he would say to God in the pain sounded crazy.

When you are in painful moments we all say and do things that may not be the best for us.

“How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy exalt himself and triumph over me? Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; Give light (life) to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, And my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken. But I have trusted and relied on and been confident in Your lovingkindness and faithfulness; My heart shall rejoice and delight in Your salvation. I will sing to the LORD Because He has dealt bountifully with me.”

Psalms 13:1-6 AMP

Look at David’s Pain. How long will you forget me? How long will you hide your face from me?

He even tells God to answer him.

Then he goes beyond the pain to praise.

GOD HAS A PLAN EVERY TIME FOR YOU. EVEN WHEN YOU BLOW IT. EVEN WHEN YOU SIN. EVEN WHEN YOU MESS IT ALL UP.

Quote: The pain will leave once it has finished teaching you.

Quote: I’ve learned more from pain than I could’ve ever learned from pleasure.

God’s Plan will teach us through the pain.

3. PAIN WILL MOVE YOU:

Too many people believe that everything must be pleasurable in life, which makes them constantly search for distractions and short-circuits the learning process. Robert Greene

Many times when painful times happen we will go into fight or flight mode. Most people go into flight. We are wired to avoid pain at all costs. We want pleasure, not pain. This is why many people try to run to things to cover the pain.

We have pain pills to help you not feel the pain. People abuse alcohol or drugs or whatever to escape the pain.

Revelation is this the pain is still there. When you take a pain killer all it does is trick the brain to not feel but the pain has gone nowhere. You drink so much you can not feel the pain, but the next morning you still have the pain.

David is verbalizing his pain. He feels it, it is real to him. No one can really understand your pain or hurt because it is happening to you. We all feel things differently.

The one thing we do have in common is we all will move with pain. Where you move or what you move to is the question.

I have seen people move from one painful relationship to another because they want to love. Other human being's love will never fulfill the place of God’s Love for you.

Look at how David’s life changed at the end of the scripture.

David felt the pain. He was hurting but he allowed the pain to move from his human flesh, his hurts, and disappointments to God.

4. FROM PAIN TO PRAISE:

“But I have trusted and relied on and been confident in Your lovingkindness and faithfulness; My heart shall rejoice and delight in Your salvation. I will sing to the LORD Because He has dealt bountifully with me.”

Psalms 13:5-6 AMP

WE HAVE TO REMEMBER WHEN WE ARE HURTING AND GOING THRU PAINFUL SITUATIONS REMEMBER.

REMEMBER GOD CARES.

REMEMBER GODS GOTTA PLAN FOR ME.

REMEMBER PAIN MOVES ME.

REMEMBER TO MOVE FROM PAIN TO PRAISE.

5. GODS PLAN AND PURPOSE: LOVE

LOVE IS THE ANSWER AND ANTIDOTE FOR PAIN. NOT FROM PEOPLE BUT FIRST FROM GOD.

The story of my faithful dog Shiloh means, “peaceful one.” He backslide and got into our trash can which had some chicken leg bones. He ate a few and they got stuck in his backside. He was in such pain and I went to help remove the pain from him. He swung around and bit me super hard and blood was pouring out of my arm. I helped him and helped me. People were telling me to get rid of him or put him down for bitting me and tasting blood.

I realized he did not bite me because he was mad or angry at me. He bit me because he was in pain. People who are in pain will bite anyone even you if try to help them. Remember they are hurting. Pain for a moment can seem larger than love but it will not last. Love is stronger. Love is more powerful. Love wins.

Love is the only antidote. God’s love and your love and understanding.

God Cares and so do I.

“Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap if we do not give in.”

Galatians 6:9 AMP

When you realize that God has a plan and purpose for you and yours you will not give up. You may think about it but you will not give up.

GOD’S LOVE IS BIGGER THAN THE PAIN, HURT. REMEMBER THIS.

The pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow.

New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.
