Raising a Strong Family in today’s culture

Sermon Notes

Raising a Strong Family in today’s culture. In our culture family really is very dysfunctional. We are living in a very dysfunctional time in our nation. The world has tried to erase the foundations of family. Our world and culture is doing everything it can to change the way people do life especially as families.

I read this: Family might be defined by a group of people who are related to each other, BUT ITS MORE THAN THAT. It’s a meaningful connection, an experience. It’s an incredible and unbreakable bond—created by mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers. It’s a comfort in a world of uncertainty. It’s a shoulder to lean on. It’s a source of inspiration. It’s love and support. It’s wonderful, and its necessary. It’s from God and so so powerful when made and done Gods Way.

I was in a restaurant the other day and seen this family having dinner. They were all at the same table, but they were doing anything but dining together. Dad and mom were on cell phones, the three children the oldest was listening to something on his phone the the younger children both had iPads and all had ear buds in. No one is talking to each other. They are just feeding with no relationship. I watched as i ate from across the restaurant. They never spoke till the were all finished.

We live in a culture where the parents are dysfunctional. They do not even understand their roles so the dysfunction flows down to the children. They go to schools where the culture is so out there.

God has called us to change our culture by choosing to live a life that is pleasing to God and because it is so great the world will want what we have. I don’t care what anyone thinks or believes, if they see something that is real and has results they will want it. Real and results. Real and results. This gets peoples attention.

Quote: Families are like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions, yet our roots REMAIN AS ONE. AS ONE. We can see that the family as the way God intended to be needs help. We see the problems, the challenges like looking at the fruit of a tree. If we are to get a great understanding and revelation for the family we must start at below the surface, THE ROOTS. THE ROOTS. THE ROOTS. THE ROOTS. Everything that is built must be built on a strong solid foundation. Only then can you build upwards and know that it will stand strong, because the foundation was solid.

Our culture has no real values or morals so you have no real blueprints to build anything strong or positive. It’s a kinda do what you feel like, but then these lives breakdown and fall apart because they do not have any real foundation.

God is the master builder of life, lives, family, business, success, joy, happiness, etc. He has established blueprints for the success and abundance in every area. He has it all in His Word. Most don’t or wont follow His Plans so humanity gets whatever they come up with without His Master Plan. DYSFUNCTIONAL

God must be our foundation. First and foremost. In our culture they have tried to do away with God. They have tried to do away with the Bible. They have tried to do away with Godliness. They have tried to do away with Holy Spirit. They have tried to replace him with other religions, ideologies, beliefs most or based around humanism. Me the man or woman is God. We see the divorce rate is thru the roof. We see children on so many medications. We see so much violence in schools. We see people wandering thru life trying to make something with no plans or blueprints.

DYSFUNCTIONAL: : impaired or abnormal functioning gastrointestinal dysfunction: abnormal or unhealthy interpersonal behavior or interaction within a group family dysfunction

We make as humans very pitiful gods and we fail daily. Foundation, Roots. A family made Gods Way is a bit of Heaven on Earth.

JOSHUA 24:14-15 AMP ““Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and in truth; remove the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the [Euphrates] River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. If it is unacceptable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.””

Joshua 24:14-15 KJV “Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua was dealing with a culture challenge. There were people who did not want to serve God and follow his example and leadership. You can’t make people serve God. They were creating other gods and Joshua brought them to a cross road of choice. The found themselves in over 400 years of bondage because they would listen and follow God and His Plans for their lives. We see the same challenges in our world today. God has a plan, yet people choose not to follow Him. When they crash, blow it, tragedy strikes they come running to God. When they need Him to pick up the pieces and help them get back up its all God, then what they do after that shows the heart.

Foundation: Fear the Lord, this means Reverence, Respect for God and His authority. Our culture has has taught you really don’t need to respect any one in authority.

I remember one thing my mom would not tolerate was disrespect. You may not agree but we should respect those in authority. Our culture says respect only those who you like or agree with, crazy.

Fear Him, Reverence Him. This why when people say God Damn or Jesus Christ when they are mad or upset its a subtle way to Irreverence Gods Name. This is our culture. WE can see so many areas where we have been retrained by our culture and not God or His Words.

Fear the Lord, Serve Him in Sincerity and Truth. Sincerity in Hebrew Entire, complete, full, whole self. Mind, body, soul. Real not religious. Truth in Hebrew. Stability, faithful, trustworthy.

Joshua says put away or get rid of the gods your fathers served on the other side. What gods did we serve on the other side of Christ? These false gods are every where. Whatever you make most of is your god. Today it’s all about self, me, When we forget He God is the Giver and serve His gifts. People, pleasure, these or the weekend or nightlife many people live for this. Money, success, wealth, The golden calf of this culture.

“Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’ But you shall remember [with profound respect] the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore (solemnly promised) to your fathers, as it is this day.” DEUTERONOMY 8:17-18 AMP

Fashion, this is so smooth. So much time and thought to dress, because many fear what others will think of them. WE see this in our younger generations. CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord [that is, accept their guidance and discipline as His representatives], for this is right [for obedience teaches wisdom and self-discipline]. HONOR [esteem, value as precious] YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER [and be respectful to them]–this is the first commandment with a promise– SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY HAVE A LONG LIFE ON THE EARTH. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” EPHESIANS 6:1-4 AMP
