Parenting 911

Sermon Notes

This is more than a teaching for parents on how to do it right. It is more than a teaching to children on how to do right. I see it as a message on how it supposed to be in God’s Way of Working.

“Who can occupy your patience when impatience roars through you? Your life is yours to live, no matter how you choose to live it. When you do not think about how you intend to live it, it lives you.” ~Gary Zukav

“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.” ~Napoleon Hill

A child who is allowed to be disrespectful to his parents will not have true respect for anyone. Billy Graham

Don’t worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.

Children are not casual guests in our home. They have been loaned to us temporarily for the purpose of loving them and instilling a foundation of values on which their future lives will be built. James Dobson

My mom and dad gave their kids the greatest gift of all – the gift of unconditional love. They cared deeply about who we would be, and much less about what we would do. Mitt Romney

Cared more about who they would be and less about what we would be.

One mentality deals with character the other deals with careers.

The way I see it is you have many adults having children that have many issues not dealt with and they are teaching and raising children with all their issues. Parenting is a very difficult challenge. It is was never meant to be easy. It was meant to be rewarding though.

God had children, look at them. They did not listen, they lied, cheated, hid from him, ignored him, they blamed him and each other for their failures and mistakes.

Thank God He has a plan and a back up plan for parents.

Here is what God says to parents.

“Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” PROVERBS 22:6 AMP

“Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost.” Proverbs 22:6 MSG

Train up a child, the word Train in Hebrew means: put something into his mouth, initiate, to give to be tasted. A new mom the way she gives her new baby is new food. Put it in and give him the taste to get him started. This word train means initiate. Literally means initiate a child in accordance with his way. Train- initiate and so educate. Train-initiate so early instruction. Train is get them started early on the path of Obedience and God’s Word and Ways.

In the Jewish culture they understand this more than us Americans. This word was written by Hebrews to Hebrews or Jews to Jews. In there culture they raise their children from birth with obedience and God’s Word and God’s Ways. They teach them to honor their religion and ways.

American tv and Disney is raising our children. We many times don’t initiate until they are problems as younger children. Our culture is raising them. We teach them to go to school, get good grades, get out and get a job or start a company. Most Americans Parents are so highly training on the natural things of life. School, work, job, dating, fun, etc…… The is the Spiritual Training that is missing. Going back to the Jewish Culture, Religion is not a Sunday school once a week for one hour experience. They raise them to to believe, they raise them to honor, they raise them to follow, they raise them and they share daily with them what God wants from them.

“These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be [written] on your heart and mind. You shall teach them diligently to your children [impressing God’s precepts on their minds and penetrating their hearts with His truths] and shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.” DEUTERONOMY 6:6-7 AMP

This is the Word that the Jewish Culture trains their children with. Teach, train, but i love the AMP version here they use the word IMPRESSING GODS PRECEPTS ON THEIR MINDS AND PENETRATING THEIR HEARTS WITH HIS TRUTHS.

Americans think that having fun, trips, hanging out is going to train them. These are wonderful things but alone they do not prepare young people for life.

I learned that my calling as a parent was not to be my children’s buddy. I was given this responsibility to train them, teach them, God and His ways. Showing them how to do life in God. Walking the talk not just talk and talk. How we live, how we do life our children are watching and learning. They are seeing how we deal with changes, they are seeing us how we deal with financial choices.

I remember impressing God first, tithing, giving, serving God by serving others, prayer, personal relationship with God, priority of His Word, secret weapon Speaking in Tongues. Coming to church was not a choice or when we had time or when it was convenient. I trained and taught them God first. You impress it into them and when they grow up even when they have real life challenges and make mistakes they will remember WHO TO RUN TOO GOD.

Many of the mistakes we made is because we did not get the training. Think of training as in potty training. Over and over getting them to not go in their clothes. Over and over you train them to tell you when. They start out grabbing the spot. Do you gotta go, no no i am ok. They grab more and more and then you start yelling and racing with them to the restroom.

I see all these children in our world killing other children. The problems in our world is there is just no real training at home.

There was a shooting at a high school and many people were offering prayers and condolences and spoke of faith. A teenager young man spoke that praying doesn’t work and won’t help anyone.

We have a generational problem. Parents are not training, so the children grow up get jobs, own companies, but its all natural training. They are not equipped for real life. Read Proverbs over and over he says, Proverbs 2: 1 starts with MY SON, IF YOU WILL RECEIVE MY WORDS, PROVERBS 3:1 starts with MY SON, DO NOT FORGET MY TEACHINGS, PROVERBS 4:1 HEAR O CHILDREN THE INSTRUCTION OF A FATHER AND PAY ATTENTION AND BE WILLING TO LEARN SO THAT YOU MAY GAIN UNDERSTANDING AND INTELLIGENT DISCERNMENT.

I will use this as a side note. It was the Father’s responsibility to spiritually train and teach. In America the man works a job, and the responsibility to teach and train is left to a mom. Your job as a parent does not end at 5 o’clock because your shift at work is over.

Today we have children, and teens growing up with no real training. What will become of them?

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord [that is, accept their guidance and discipline as His representatives], for this is right [for obedience teaches wisdom and self-discipline]. HONOR [esteem, value as precious] YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER [and be respectful to them]–this is the first commandment with a promise– SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY HAVE A LONG LIFE ON THE EARTH. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” EPHESIANS 6:1-4 AMP

Naomi was the mother-in law. “But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people will be my people, and your God, my God.” RUTH 1:16 AMP
