Old Mentality Vs New Reality “Pastor Joseph Lephiew

Old Mentality verses A New Reality

I love the word new. New home, new car, new clothes, new experiences, new hopes and new dreams.

New means being in a position, place, or state for the first time.

Reality means the way things actually are.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].”

1. If you are born again excepted Jesus has your personal Savior you are in Christ. We are referred as a new creature. New Creature. Reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit.

2. The old things have passed away. You have do have a funeral for your old self. Since we moved we had to go thru and get rid of a lot of stuff. Things we have not used in years. We had things that were broken. We had a drawer with cords, like old cell phone chargers stuff we did not even know what the stuff was anymore.

3. You can not have a new with old. If you hoard the old there is no room for the new to come.

4. We need to do some decluttering in our lives. There are things, experiences, beliefs, mindset that you need to let go and give it to God. Old habits, God can not give you more because you are stuck in old ways.

5. New things have come.

6. Spiritual awakening brings a new life.

Awakening means a rousing from sleep, a rousing from inactivity or indifference, a revival of interest in something, a coming into awareness.

Spiritual wake up. Wake up and get up God is looking to bring you and into new things. God is looking to us to have a revival of interest.

Everyone prays for revival. You are a revival. The reason you are not have a revival is because you spiritually asleep.  We have inactivity or indifference. Pray and seek God and give and serve and share your faith with every person you can.

2 Corinthians 5:18 AMP.  “But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him],”

Every one here is a minister and here is your ministry. It’s not preaching and teaching.

He gave us all the ministry of reconciliation.

Reconciliation means to restore to harmony, to bring to resolution. Imagine you someone is upset and they stop speaking and separate as friends and when they come together and get healing. You would say their relationship was reconciled.

If we are born again we are new people then we need to embrace our ministry that God gave each one of us.

God wants to bless our lives. God wants to bless your families. God wants to bless your finances. God wants to bless your health. There are so many blessings and rewards God has for us. We stop God.

2 Kings 6:17 AMP. “Then Elisha prayed and said, “Lord, please, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servants eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha.”

Elisha’s servant could only see the problems. He could see the danger. He could only see they were hopeless.

What do we see everyday going thru life? The way you see will stop you or release you.

We are praying and asking God for more money, more of this or that and God says here is how you get it. We stop right there.

It’s getting around that time of year and you know what most people do is make all these promises to themselves. I am going to loose weight or get more healthy. I am going to get serious about making more money. I am going to work at my relationships and improve them. I am going to get more committed, I am going to listen to God I am tired of struggling doing life my old way.

How can God do a new thing if your stuck in your old ways. Some of you dress the same way every day. Eat the same food everyday. Do the same things everyday. Do the same old over and over.

I double dog dare you to step out and give more than you have ever given, I double dog dare you to open your mouth and share your faith. I double dog dare you to get more committed and join our DCI Team. I double dog dare you to come to more than a Sunday service.

It’s easy to talk hallelujah but you gotta walk it. God is calling us to walk and live out what we say we believe. I have seen people in church for years never give like God calls them to. I have seen people in church for years never tell another soul about Jesus or their church. I have seen people in church their whole life and yet nothing changes.

That is not the God we serve. We walk by faith not by sight.

I just seen news article saying Christianity and church’s are on the decline. They talked about the giving is on the decline.

We need to wake up and get up. Shout it out, wake up. I remember going to movies with Daisy Rose. It was a little girl movie. I kept falling asleep and snoring. The manager of theater comes and ask me if I could snore a little quieter. It was effecting other people.

Daisy was so embarrassed every time I would dose off she would elbow with her elbow.

John Wesley said, “If you want a revival, set yourself on fire and people will come watch you burn.”

What kind of revival can happen when you don’t even share your faith. How will we have revival if you afraid to give and trust God. How will revival happen if we do not believe and do the things that Jesus called us to do. Revival will not happen till you and I love, live and give, share, like Jesus did.

James 2:14 AMP. “What is the benefit, my fellow believers, if someone claims to have faith but has no [good] works [as evidence]? Can that [kind of] faith save him? [No, a mere claim of faith is not sufficient—genuine faith produces good works.]”

The world is full of believers but believe in words. They do not have action to back up that they are believers. Believers will not change our world.

Believing will get you anywhere.

It’s when you believe and then do that produces results.

James 2:20 AMP. “But are you willing to recognize, you foolish [spiritually shallow] person, that faith without [good] works is useless?”

I hear people all the time speak who they always believe in God. Believing in Jesus will get you to heaven. Just believing will not bring heaven in your world. You will struggle and suffer here on the ground. You will go to heaven but live here like hell on earth.

James 2:19 AMP.  “You believe that God is one; you do well [to believe that]. The demons also believe [that], and shudder and bristle [in awe-filled terror—they have seen His wrath]!”

Believing is not enough. Even the demons believe. God is calling us to walk the talk. Walk the love. Live or faith out loud. More than just a Jesus shirt or hat. I love that stuff but God is calling us to back up our faith with works.

Share your faith. Come to church. Give liberally your tithes and offerings. Give your self to do the work of the ministry. Offer to pray for people. Take some invite cards and invite people to church.

I remember trying to encourage people as they left the church to take a few invite cards. I walk up to this young man and I went to give him a couple cards. The young man says no pastor a some in my wallet. I said to him they do no good just sitting in your wallet. Put them into someone’s hands and verbally invite them.

People say things like I am to shy, Bologna. I am afraid to talk to people. You talk to waiter, waitress. You talk to co workers. You talk to people at the cashiers counter at all the stores you shop. Wake up. We need a spiritual awakening.

Story of Moses and the Exodus. They believed more in fear and lack so they died never to enter into God’s promises.

Imagine you die broke struggling to make ends meet when God had the promised land all you had to do was obey Him.

Imagine you die lonely and unhappy when the promises land was there on the other side of your obedience. They were sons of God but died living like slaves. They body was free but their mind set was stuck with Egypt thinking.

Isaiah 43:18-19 AMP.   “Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”
