WORKING WITH GOD
WORKING WITH GOD WITH PEOPLE—Our world, our community,
WORKING WITH GOD WITH THE CHURCH
July is Working With God. Many people say and I have even said I work for God. When you work for someone the relationship is different than if you work with someone.
When you work for someone they are the employer and you are the employee.
When you work with someone it is deeper it is personal, it is like working with family. It’s not just a job that I have to do.
Serving God is not a job. It’s a Privilege based on my relationship with Jesus. Working with Jesus is not a job. It’s a Privilege.
Genesis 2:15 NCV. “The Lord God put the man in the garden of Eden to care for it and work it.”
1. WORK NOT A JOB.
How do most people act or react when they hear the words work and job?
How do most people view a job?
Gallop did a poll and found that 85% of over a billion working people hate their jobs.
The number 1 reason was issues with their boss. I don’t like my boss. He or she is to demanding. Most people do not have a real relationship with the boss. The second reason they viewed the job as just a way to make ends meet.
Imagine working a job but not liking what you are doing.
God put the man in the Garden of Eden to care for it and work it.
This was not a job. In the beginning Adam loved his leader. He loved the privileged of working with His God. They would talk about the names Adam chose for the animals.
How you see and view things is how you work it. If you see God as this hard boss who you can never satisfy you will avoid getting committed. You won’t take ownership of His work.
I see me and God in a partnership. Jesus paid the price for my forgiveness and salvation. Jesus gave me authority and power because of our relationship. His Spirit is in me. He is in me.
Working with Jesus can never be a job for me. I am working with my Father in our family business. I am the hands, feet, eyes, the heart of God’s Work.
The same command He gave Adam He gives to us. We are to care for it and work it.
It is a Privilege and honor to work with God.
When my pastor or another leader asked me to help, work, serve, whatever needed to be done to help my Father in our family business. I was and am still open to work in our family business.
So how do you know if you’re doing ministry with God instead of for him? Here are some diagnostic questions and ideas to help you find the answer:
When you work FOR God….
-you expect accolades
-you’re sad when no one notices
-you critique leaders
-you lack vision
-you view team members as means to your end
-your personal bible reading/prayer life diminishes
-your joy is based off of your performance
-you feel shame about hidden sin
When you work WITH God…
-you expect nothing
-you’re pleased when no one notices work
-you see the greater vision of the small work
-you view team members as brothers/sisters, and you see their well-being as more important than the job that is to get done.
-your personal bible reading and prayer time is consistent (not necessarily flourishing)
-you are happy while exhausted
Ultimately, your walk with Jesus will save your ministry and maybe even your own life. Read Scripture and be encourage: ministry is not a performance for God, but a participation in work with him and in him. He’s that good. D
WE WORK WITH GOD IN OUR FAMILY BUSINESS.
2. WORK EXAMPLES:
John 5:17 AMP. “But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now [He has never ceased working], and I too am working.””
Look at these two examples of workers. God and Jesus. Jesus is speaking to a group of Jews.
My Father is working and is still working. I am working too.
This work is not viewed a job, something they just have to do to just get by.
Jesus went through everything He went through the betrayal, beatings, the humiliations. It was not a job. He was doing the Fathers Work in His Fathers Business for us.
God works and it never ends. Jesus is working too.
We are to embrace working with our God.
1 Corinthians 3:9 AMP. “For we are God’s fellow workers [His servants working together]; you are God’s cultivated field [His garden, His vineyard], God’s building.”
1 Corinthians 3:9 KJV. “For we are laborer's together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.”
1 Corinthians 3:9 NCV. “We are God’s workers, working together; you are like God’s farm, God’s house.”
3. WORKING TOGETHER:
When I think of working with God I think of a partnership, a family business. It’s not a me thing it’s an us thing. We are doing this together.
The first work is in us. God is working together with us in us. He is working to help bring growth, changes, healing, developing leadership so we can lead His people.
Christians got it all wrong. We think salvation and now we can go to Heaven. The purpose that God has for us is way more advanced than just you becoming a good person and attend a few services.
HE HAS A PLAN, A WORK, A LABOUR OF LOVE FOR US TO BECOME PARTNERS IN HIS BUSINESS ON PLANET EARTH.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is never without purpose].”
1 Corinthians 15:58 AMP
WHAT IS THE WORK OF THE LORD? THIS WORK IS GODS PURPOSE FOR US.
Many so called Christians are just doing Christian Living. Christian living is wonderful but become a partner with God and doing the Work of the Lord is much more deeper.
Christian living is you have excepted Jesus as your personal Savior. This is the basics of Christianity.
GOD IS CALLING US TO GO DEEPER IN HIM. HE HAS A DEEPER PURPOSE THAN JUST BECOMING A GOD GODLY PERSON.
DOING THE WORK OF THE LORD IS AS A BELIEVER I ADVANCE THE GOSPEL AMONG UNBELIEVERS AND TO ESTABLISH BELIEVERS IN THE GOSPEL.
The benefits of serving with the Lord to do His work allows us to experience Gods Presence in a very new and fresh way.
Christian living says I believe in you. Working for the Lord says I believe in You and and want to be with you and involved in anything and everything you care about. I love you because you loved me first.
God never created us to just attend a service in a church. God heart is that we become partners with Him and Become the Church.
God created everyone to do the work of the Lord.
My job as the Pastor, Teacher, is to train and develop you to do the work of the Lord.
Before we can train and develop and disciple you, you must first commit.
Proverbs 16:3 AMP. “Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].”
4. YOU WERE CREATED TO DO THE WORK OF THE LORD:
Ephesians 4:12 AMP. “[and He did this] to fully equip and perfect the saints (God’s people) for works of service, to build up the body of Christ [the church];”
God changes caterpillars into butterflies, sand into pearls and coal into diamonds using time and pressure. He's working on you too." – Rick Warren
