Freedom to Give and Receive
There is a true freedom in giving. Giving is a freedom way of living. Takers are not free. Takers are bound by greed and fear and selfishness.
Last week we were looking at one of the biggest enemies of Freedom is selfishness.
Selfishness means: concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others. Selfishness will destroy your freedom. This is what the enemy uses to destroy lives and destiny. Selfishness destroys churches, families, companies, friendships, anything that involves relationships.
Freedom is to be used through love to serve and seek the best for others. Freedom comes from Christ love for us. It is to be used to help others. Selfish people are not walking and living in His Freedom. Selfishness is flesh bondage. Selfishness won’t share Jesus with others or invite them to church. Self won’t give but sure likes to receive.
The basic beginning of the first scripture to memorize is John 3:16, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Giving comes from a heart that loves. Giving really has nothing to do with money. It really has to do with heart and love. Our giving is really about our hearts and love.
Selfishness is really a heart that is not in love with God or His church or His vision. It is a heart that is turned inward and see and focuses on its own needs and wants.
God’s giving was created by his heart and love. Giving is about love. Self or God?
“In everything I showed you [by example] that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed [and brings greater joy] to give than to receive.’ ”” ACTS 20:35 AMP
Two positions here the Giver and the Receiver. Most people when they hear someone getting something like a financial blessing or a great gift say I wish that was me or I wish that would happen to me.
Most people look to be the receiver, why?
It is in the Word where Jesus says, “it is better to give than to receive.” Better to Give than to receive.
The receiver only receives. Receive means to get or be given something. It is like the guy who gave an older lady a paid off house. So many people posted they wished someone would give them a house. Wow, what a huge gift. Everyone that posted wished to be the receiver.
The receiver got a house. The giver had a lot more than the house.
God is the Giver. We are the receivers. When we grow in our walk and lives as believers we grow in the area of giving. When we get closer to Christ we grow in the area of giving or at least we should.
God spoke to me years ago through many great people of God. God said, “ keep your hands always open before me, let me take out what I choose and I can put in what I choose.” By doing this it insures a flow from God to me to God to me.
“Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have.” Jim Rohn
“Giving is the master key to success, in all applications of human life.” Bryant McGill
“Don’t expect to receive if you’re not willing to give.” Anonymous He who serves the most, reaps the most.” Jim Rohn
”We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill
“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” Kathy Calvin
It is summer time and this is usually the most challenging time for church’s and ministries. It’s summer, kids out of school, vacations, there is a mentality that why when school starts the mentality changes. Go to school, vacation is over, back to the schedule, school, the weekend is the rest.
The Giver has a different heart than the just a receiver. When you understand how God works and His process you understand it has never been about money.
Giving is a daily test to see where your heart is.
““Do not store up for yourselves [material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.” MATTHEW 6:19-21 AMP
I was taught this early and they said to have anything materially was a waste. That is not what this word is saying. The key is what is your TREASURE?
I have seen people who when they get saved they are so grateful to God, the Pastor’s and the church they love, they give, they serve. I have also seen people change as they increase in wealth and stuff they change. They become to busy for church or serving. They become to much to tithe according to Gods Word. They say things like well when I was giving $100 it was ok but to give $1000, well that is just to much.
What changes? THE CHANGES IS THE TREASURES. IN THE BEGINNING THE TREASURE WAS JESUS, THE TREASURE WAS A NEW BEGINNING, THE TREASURE WAS A NEW LIFE, THE TREASURE WAS A NEW HOPE, THE TREASURE WAS
BELONGING, THE TREASURE WAS THE FAMILY OF GOD, THE TREASURE WAS PEACE AND POWER, THE TREASURE WAS FAITH, LOVE, AND HOPE.
WHEN THE TREASURE CHANGES TO MONEY, SUCCESS, GREED, SELFISHNESS, MAMMON, THE HEART FOLLOWS THE TREASURE.
YOUR HEART WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR TREASURE. WHEN YOU TREASURE IS GOD, HIS MINISTRIES, HIS MINISTERS HIS SOULS, HIS CHURCH YOUR TREASURE IS WHAT HE LOVES AND DIED FOR.
ON WHICH YOUR LIFE CENTERS. LIFE CENTERS IS WHAT IS HOLDING AND SUPPORTING YOU AND YOUR LIFE.
“Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way]. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD [with reverent awe and obedience] and turn [entirely] away from evil. It will be health to your body [your marrow, your nerves, your sinews, your muscles—all your inner parts] And refreshment (physical well-being) to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth And with the first fruits of all your crops (income); Then your barns will be abundantly filled And your vats will overflow with new wine.” PROVERBS 3:5-10 AMP
Giving is really TREASURE, HEART AND TRUST ISSUE. OUR TRUST IS NOT TO BE IN MONEY, BUSINESS, OR MATERIAL THINGS. OUR TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IS IN THE LORD WITH ALL OUR HEART. NO YOU OR YOUR STUFF, BUT IN THE LORD.
REVERENCE, OBEDIENCE, TRUST SAYS THIS IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH.
DISOBEDIENCE IS NOT GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH.
HONOR MEANS: 1. to regard or treat (someone) with respect and admiration 2. to show admiration for (someone or something) in a public way: to do what is required by (something, such as a promise or a contract)
Oh. My. GOODNESS.
So worth the read, friends. I would just add that honoring and worshiping Jesus is true joy and peace.
Steve Jobs dies a billionaire… with a fortune of $7 billion…at the age of 56 from pancreatic cancer…and here are some of his last words…
Remember the story of the 10 lepers. They get healed by Jesus but only one comes back to thank and praise Him. Jesus says where are the other 9? The other nine their treasure was a healing, the one his treasure was Jesus. The 9 only got what they got, but the one got Jesus plus…..
“In other eyes… my life is the essence of success… but aside from work… I have a little joy. And in the end…. wealth is just a fact of life to which I am accustomed.”
“At this moment… lying on the bed… sick and remembering all my life… I realize that all my recognition and wealth that I have is meaningless in the face of imminent death. You can hire someone to drive a car for you… make money for you … but you can not rent someone to carry the disease for you.
One can find material things…. but there is one thing that can not be found when it is lost – “LIFE”.
Treat yourself well…and cherish others. As we get older we are smarter… and we slowly realize that the watch is worth $30 or $300 – both of which show the same time. Whether we carry a purse worth $30 or $300 – the amount of money in the wallets are the same. Whether we drive a car worth $150,000, or a car worth $30,000 – the road and distance are the same… we reach the same destination.
If we drink a bottle worth $300 or wine worth $10 – the “stroller” will be the same. If the house we live in is 300 square meters… or 3000 square meters – the loneliness is the same.”
“Your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you’re flying first class…or economy class – if the plane crashes…you crash with it.”
So… I hope you understand that when you have friends or someone to talk to – this is true happiness!
