End of the Year Things
It that time again. After Thanksgiving, and all that Christmas is and was. As we near to closing out 2017 we still have all the end of the year things and stuff to still deal with. It’s ok, start taking lights down, taking down Christmas trees, packing the lights and decorations. Pastor Yvonne pulled out the storage bins to begin to pack away for the next Christmas. The end of the year things and stuff deals with taking down, packing away, and cleaning up and a few other things.
Dealing with stuff that will not be needed in January 2018. We all have things that we went through, changes and challenges this year. There are things that we need to just do inventory within us. Things, habits, bs beliefs systems, people that we need to leave in 2017, things that need to be packed up, taking down, cleaned up before we step into 2018.
Most people go thru life dragging all the junk from each year, each relationship, each failure into each year. Dump your junk, throw out your trash, pack up what is not needed now, clean up for a band new and amazing year.
Pack up the Christmas decorations, get ready for a brand new year. At this time of year the media does a thing called, “YEAR IN REVIEW.” They go back over the big things or events. Like the inauguration of President Donald Trump, The massive shooting massacre in Las Vegas, The Hollywood scandals, etc.
Before we enter or open a new year, we need to do a year in review and see what we have that needs to be released, forgiven, forgotten, stored or just put it away.
“that, regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, [godlike] in the righteousness and holiness of the truth [living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation].” EPHESIANS 4:22-24 AMP
Your previous way of life. We all have a previous way of life. Most of us it was not so good. The command is to put off your old self. I go to the gym Monday thru Friday for to keep my shoulder moving. I sit in the hot sauna, I sweat, I come home and take those gym cloths offand throw them into my closet, I will wear them a few times. Everyone says I smell, but I cant smell it.
Your old self, my old self is old. It lied it cheated, it is nasty, it is mean and unforgiving and selfish. We have to take it off, put it off. You are not your old way of life. You are not your old nature. I am not my old gym clothes. I am who i am underneath the the old nature, underneath the old gym clothes, I am heart and soul.
I am heart and soul. The kingdom of God is within me. The Holy Spirit is within me. God in me. My flesh is the container for my spirit. I am Spirit, not the container my Spirit is housed in.
BE CONTINUALLY RENEWED IN THE SPIRIT OF YOUR MIND,,,,,HAVING A FRESH, UNTARNISHED MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL ATTITUDE.
We are not our flesh. What is more important the bottle what is contained in the bottle. The bottle is just a container, the key the power, the important is what’s in the bottle.
What and who is in you????? We judge everybody by what we see on the outside. We are all looking at each others bottle, God said man judges based on the outside, but God looks into the heart. God sees what’s in the flesh, not the flesh. When you get this revelation, you are not your flesh or failures, YOU ARE SPIRIT. The spirit of the Living God is within you.
We struggle to change our flesh by working on our flesh, the power to change is in the renewing of the spirit of your mind.
Put off old nature, Renew the spirit of your mind/heart, Put on New Self. It’s like take the old dirty clothes off and let Holy Spirit bathe you and the Lord will give you a clean set of new clothes.
We have to keep bathing our bottle or container. Our Spirit is God Within Us. Renew our mind, attitudes.
When Moses led the Hebrews out of captivity in Egypt they left the junk, but God instructed them to take all the gold, silver, wealth of Egypt. Only things of worth and value leave with you. Waist, junk, trash, garbage, negative, stays in Egypt.
Remember when Moses led them out of Egypt, they all wanted to be free. Freedom is not free it is costly. Our freedom here in America cost many thousands of lives fighting wars and battles so we can have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of choice.
Their body was free, but their mind, thinking, BS belief systems were not free. They were free in body but bound up in spirit. Their mentality was fearful, poverty, weak, lacking trust in God.
Getting them out was only part of the progress. We don’t want to just get out of stuff, we also want to enter into all that God has for us.
There was a level of thinking that was ok for 2017 but you and i must step it up for 2018. What worked last year may not work this year. Some of us have dragged around yucky thinking and God wants it. Leave it on this side. You can’t go in with old thinking.
“Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new [spiritual] self who is being continually renewed in true knowledge in the image of Him who created the new self–” COLOSSIANS 3:9-10 AMP
You have stripped off the old self, you have put on the new spiritual self. It says YOU STRIPPED OFF AND PUT ON. This is our choice this is our decision, we do the stripping. It is with Gods help but we do it.
I believe Israel stripped, they did not want the clothes of bondage, but i believe they did not put on the new spiritual self. This is why they got out but was not able to get into the full promised land. They became stuck in the wilderness, wandering, just going in circles but never getting to the final destination.
They were out of bondage, but stuck in wilderness of just ok, or just enough, fear, lack and struggles. It is not enough to get out of bondage, you and i must put on your new spiritual self, who is continually renewed in the true knowledge in the image of Him who created the new you.
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature [pursuing spiritual perfection] should have this attitude. And if in any respect you have a different attitude, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us stay true to what we have already attained.” PHILIPPIANS 3:13-16 AMP
This year is going to be a new year of pursuing spiritual perfection. Forgetting behind and pressing towards the goal to win the prize of the high calling. Let us stay true to what we have already attained.
Leave the junk, leave the stuff that has been holding you back. Word says cast the weights and sins that have stopped and slowed us down. We are on the edge of breakthrough.
