Breaking Self-Limiting Beliefs
Everything we have been learning up to this point is to help us Live Our Lives Without Limits.
Last week it was Biblical Meditation.
True story of a 31year old woman who was married with 2 children. She grew up in a very dysfunctional home. She was verbal abused all her life by parents. She grew up with low self-esteem and feeling so inferior. She felt unworthy and so unvalued. She felt she was good for nothing and stupid. One day while driving another car ran a red light and smashed into her car. When she woke up in hospital she had suffered a concussion and complete loss of memory loss. She was physically fine but she was a total amnesiac. She went home to start her healing and learning process of her family again.
All the negatives memories were wiped away. She had no memory of what her parents did. None of the abuse, no memories of the painful past. She grew and strengthened her mind around this area. She got what doctors call now a “blank slate.”
The idea is we are born with a blank slate with no thoughts, or ideas and everything we become is a learned trait from birth onward.
The adult becomes the sum total of what they learn, feel, and experience from childhood to present. The blueprint fo your life is primarily the programming you got from your past with experiences. Your home, school, parents, friends, teachers, are all influential in creating mindsets and expectations in your life. It the are positive wonderful, if not and negative,
Where does this programming come from? The storage bin of your thinking (BELIEFS) comes from five sources: social environment, authority figures, self-image, repetitious information, and experiences.
STORY: Two shoe salesmen from different shoe companies arrive in Africa. The first guy gets off the boat and sees everyone bare footed and freaks out and contacts the company and complains that no one here where’s shoes. The second guy gets off the boat and sees the same thing. He gets so pumped and excited and contacts his company and says send him all the shoes they can get to him. He said no one has any shoes so great opportunity.
Two distinctly different perspectives. YOU SEE WHAT YOU ALREADY BELIEVE. HENRY FORD said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.
5 ELEMENTS OF YOUR PERSONAL BELIEF SYSTEM
ELEMENT 1: SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT
JACK CANFIELD said, “Less than 10% of people who go to seminars of any kind ever apply one thing that they hear.” People pay big bucks yet most don’t apply what they hear into actions. We as people get so pumped and excited but when we leave the event or even church we go back to our ENVIRONMENT.
WE TEND TO GO BACK TO RIGHT WHERE WE STARTED. When you go home back to your environment, the conditions and influences reignite past beliefs.
Look at the example of Gods People when God tells Moses to liberate and lead His people to their promised land.
Moses makes excuses to God why he is not qualified and tries to get out of it. Moses has to argue to convince the people to follow Him and Trust God. God does so many crazy supernatural miracles to convince Pharos to let them go. The people, Gods People see it all and yet when they get a few feet into freedom they get afraid and want to go back to bondage.
They want to go back because of fear of the unknown, fear of what if, fear of loss, they had nothing anyway. Why was it so hard to believe God and go forward and possess what God promised? Their mind, heart and beliefs were so programmed by Egypt and slavery.
They knew how to only think like a slave not a son or daughter. Slaves beg, slaves feel unworthy, slaves are not valuable, slaves are things not lives. See how this slave mentality is still effecting people today.
“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us,” EPHESIANS 3:30 AMP
LIMITLESS GOD GIVING US THE LIMITLESS POWER AND ANOINTING, but the power that is at work in us is fear, lack, unforgivness, greed, lust, jealous, etc. What is working in us will either release the Limitless God of Faith, Love and Power or release lack, sickness, depression, bitterness, selfishness, etc.
STORY OF LION WHO WAS RAISED BY SHEEP FARMER AS A SHEEP. THE LION ACTED LIKE A SHEEP, SLEPT LIKE A SHEEP, SOUNDED LIKE A SHEEP, ATE LIKE A SHEEP THOUGHT HE WAS A SHEEP TILL CONFRONTED BY ANOTHER LION WHO KNEW HE WAS A LION.

SOCIAL: 6 HOME ENVIRONMENTS THAT OFTEN AFFECT PERSONAL BELIEF SYSTEMS
A CONTROLLING HOME: Where parents are domineering or controlling. Many shirk responsibilities saying things like, “I can’t do that, i don’t know how or i am confused.
A FEAR-BASED HOME: Raised in this fear environment many lack motivation. Tend to be afraid of trying anything that might end in failure. Afraid to mess up.
AN INSECURE HOME: Environment usually of divorce, separation or tragedy. Many times money issues and worry about not having enough. Most wont take risks for increase.
AN ABUSIVE HOME: Physical, sexual, or emotional. The message sent is you are not valuable. Many will escape to substance abuse, etc.
A PERFORMANCE BASED HOME: Home of conditional love. Children tend to perform to a standard or some well to get love. They tend to become people pleasers. Many live in fear of rejection.
A HYPER-RESPONSIBLE HOME: Children are given to much responsibility at too early age. The point is it does not matter what environment you came from you have a choice to learn to create new beliefs through the Word of God in your heart.
ELEMENTS 2: AUTHORITY FIGURES
We all have people from the beginning of our lives who influenced us to be who we are and to think the way we do. Remember people are like elevators, they can take you up to the penthouse or down to the basement, up or down.
Our attitudes about life and ourselves develop as we interact with key authority figures.
George Washington Carver said, “99% of failure comes from people who have a habit of making excuses.”
Anything that happens to you only has the value you place on it.
Story: A little boy was in his backyard alone to play. He wanted to play baseball but he was alone. So he shouted out, “I am the best hitter in the world!” as he threw the baseball up in the air. After he swung and missed, he yelled, “Strike one.” He yelled it out again, “I am the best hitter in the world!” and threw the ball up in air. He swung and missed again yelling out, “Strike two!” He got really ready and focused. He threw the ball in the air, yelling out, “I am the best hitter in the world!” and swung missing a third time. He looks at the ball on the ground and yells out, “Well, what do you know! I am the best pitcher in the world.”
I call this ATTITUDE. The right attitude will allow you put events and stuff in proper perspective. We have no real control to what happens to you, but you have all control of how you respond or react to situations and circumstances.
HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.
ELEMENTS 3: SELF-IMAGE
Remember self-image is a predetermined belief of what we can become. It is how you see your self.
“The good man, from his [inner] good treasure, brings out good things; and the evil man, from his [inner] evil treasure, brings out evil things.” MATTHEW 12:35. AMP
GOOD TREASURE AND EVIL TREASURE, treasure means in Greek, “A DEPOSIT.”
WHAT IS YOUR INNER BRINGS OUT OF YOU. YOU DO, YOU BECOME, YOU ACCOMPLISH WHAT IS IN YOU.
REMEMBER YOUR PICTURE OF YOU. Remember Barney Fife on Mayberry. He had no courage till he got a badge and gun with one bullet. Here is what happens when you give power to someone with negative self-image of themselves.
In church in business, how you treat those you serve or employ. Jesus never needed a title to lead and serve.
We act like the person we believe ourselves to be.
ELEMENT 4: REPETITIOUS INFORMATION
Adolf Hitler said, “If you can tell a lie often enough, people will believe it.” You see this with news and media and marketing. Ads are a combination of information and images.
REMEMBER, PRINCIPLES DON’T CHANGE PEOPLE, IMAGES DO.
WHEN YOU HEAR THINGS OVER AND OVER YOU TEND TO ACCEPT THEM AS TRUTH. FALSE REPETITIOUS INFORMATION CAN BE DAMAGING.
“So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ.” Romans 10:17 AMP
ELEMENTS 5: EXPERIENCE
All fear is learned by discouraging experiences. Good news is what has been learned can be unlearned. Action creates pattens in your brain that prompts belief and action. The two most dangerous and destructive emotions are fear and discouragement. When a person loses hope, they lose the most powerful motivator to success. Children are born with so much courage, hope and risk taking, till something happens. Here comes the programming now, that hurt, i can’t.
OVERCOMING SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS
IDENTIFICATION: if you won’t look or deny you will live stuck in a lie. DISASSOCIATE: see yourself differently. See Jesus coming in with you. Meditation. APPLY THE ANTIDOTE OF GOD’S TRUTH: PUT GOD’S WORD AND DO THIS REPEATEDLY. MAKE NEW AND DO NEW EMPOWERING BELIEFS: ACT ON WHAT YOU KNOW TO BE TRUE.
GOD CREATED YOU TO DOMINATE YOUR ENVIRONMENT, NOT TO BE DOMINATED BY IT. GENESIS 1:26-28. JUST READ IT.

REMEMBER, SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS ARE WHO YOU WERE, NOT WHO YOU ARE. REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].” 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 AMP
