Becoming Aware of Others – Broken, Wounded & Hurting People
I was flipping thru Facebook when i came upon this post from a young man in Georgia. He posted three times one was to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving, then the next two really got me. The next one said, He was feeling really depressed. The last one is the one that hit home for me. He posted would it really matter if i were not even here anymore, and who would care if i were gone?
I started praying for him first and then i sent him a Holy Spirit inspired message.
We don’t realize how this time effects people cause we are all into it. Thanksgiving was amazing for us. Family and friends. Christmas is coming and I love this time of year. I love the lights. I love the Christmas songs that play 24/7. I love the baking. I love the cool air and smell of fireplaces.
Yesterday we had a small group go out and hand out invites to church. We put some on cars, hand out and personally invited people.
The faces of so many different people stand out in my mind, we were there to invite them to church. It was exciting to me and had my honey with me. She did the inside of the mall and I did the outside.
But the faces of people. I seen so many people who were suffering, looking hopeless, homeless, emotionally damaged, broken people, young kids strung out on drugs laughing but really miserable on the inside.
I seen a man sitting there just watching people, who must have been asking for money, but instead people were giving him soda drinks. He had 5 sitting beside him with. His face was so blank.
I met a young man from Chicago who I invited who seemed to be looking for purpose.
So many people looked lost, hopeless, broken, confused, helpless, etc.. We are so involved in our worlds and our lives and family that many times we do not see these other people.
I must confess it has been awhile since I seen the faces like that. Thats what originally pulled at my heart to go into ministry, was to help broken people get fixed, help hopeless people find faith and meaning, to seek out the lost and help them get found. To help those who seemed to not have a life to create an amazing abundant life in Christ.
It was like seeing people thru 3d glasses. It looked as if everyone came out closer to me. My heart began to pray for us as Gods people to get a heart for people.
Gods heart is for people. God loves people, He came and saved us so we could take His message to others. I am not talking about preaching to people. I am talking about loving people into the Kingdom.
Many times we are not aware of the needs, pain, hurt, brokenness, of people around us because we are so bubbled in our own lives and issues. Or we are still broken and in need of Gods repair. God can use broken people to help others who are broken. If anything we know who has the power, we know who has the answers, we know where there is hope and life. Remember, WE KNOW WHO IS THE GIVER OF LIFE.
Job was a great man of God, but he went thru some huge losses which were his tests. He is a believer, faith filled and yet some things are going not so good in his favor.
You can see the heart by listening to the lips. What comes out is revealing what is in the heart. Job is hurting, It seems everything he had and what was dear to him is gone. He appears to be hopeless. I said appears to be, he is not, but he does not know that.
““My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.” JOB 17:1 AMP
You know Job has this attitude and he can not see any one else’s need. He is consumed with himself.
This is how it is when things are negative and this is how it is when things are amazing. When you are high and low you are still consumed with you and yours.
Something hit me just before Thanksgiving and God began really showing me how really blessed we are, but in this awareness came how others are not as blessed.
There is a place where you can be in life where you see in as well as out. I believe this is when the heart begins to see outside from what is going on in the heart inside.
This is a level of maturity and growth that comes in pursuit of God.
David at the height of his success as the King could not see him taking another mans wife as error. He was blind to his loyal soldiers loyalty.
What ever is going on in the heart comes out in the persons actions. Jesus gave His life for ours because of what was going on in his heart. Judas did what he did in betrayal of Jesus because of what was going on in his heart. Proverbs 23:7 As a man thinks in his heart so is he.
Job is talking like this because of what is going on in his heart.
I could see broken people. I could feel their pain. I have watched a few moving Christmas movies that bring me to tears. Because I can feel joy as well as hurt from the inside to the outside. This is how we feel compassion, or caring, it is when you see inside as well as outside. People who see inside and outside can help others.
The bible records Jesus who wept over Lazarus and he wept over Jerusalem. He could see the lost people, hurting and alone, confused and broken.
There is a danger in being in church so long you forget about What is the real message of Jesus. We are into increase, abundance creating amazing wonderful lives which is part of His message and life for us. He wants us to have abundant living. But with the Abundance see the need, see the broken, hurting and lost people who need Jesus as their Savior and Lord. God wants us making more than a living, He wants us to make a Life. A life that shares and cares about others.
Scrooge made alot of money, but he had no friends, he helped no one but himself. He could not see the outside of himself.
“The Spirit of the Lord G OD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed and commissioned me To bring good news to the humble and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up [the wounds of] the brokenhearted, To proclaim release [from confinement and condemnation] to the [physical and spiritual] captives And freedom to prisoners,” ISAIAH 61:1 AMP
This is our commission as well
To bring good news to the humble and afflicted. The good news is not hell fire and brimstone. The good news is we know how to avoid that. The good news is Jesus loves them. The good news is their is hope for their lives. The good news is their is forgiveness.
Bind up the wounds of the broken-hearted. How do you do this? Love Gods love sharing and caring for others. Jesus got down and washed the feet of the disciples. His lesson is you got to get down to serve others, not from a place that I am better or got more.
Job had it all and in a moment of time He lost everything but God. The test revealed what was in his heart.
We are called to help set people free. Many are in prisons of guilt, shame and condemnation. You have to have the key. Key to unlocking the person is Gods love and acceptance. Not a condemning God.
Bible says its His love that draws man to salvation.
Scrooge had to have help to change his ways and attitude. He needed help to get him from stuck on himself to seeing the world around him.
We have the gift that others need desperately. We have Jesus.
Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually–regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.” MATTHEW 28:18-20 AMP
This is the gift we should be giving to our family and friends. The malls are filled with people who need The Lord. He is hope, he is peace, he is prosperity, he is love, he is forgiveness, he is joy.
He is reason for the season, he is the reason we are living. Share, share, share, share. Get outside of you and see peoples real need.
