Be Careful “Pastor Joseph Lephiew”

I love the book of Joshua because here is where the people of God actually begin to step into what God has for them.

A whole generation of God’s people did not enter in to the promised land. Moses sent out 12 spies who were filled with fear.

Be careful who you get advice or guidance from. If they are not faith filled you will suffer.

God mentions the phrase Be Careful about 164 times in the Bible. He begins to give Joshua some instructions to successfully get God’s people into the Promised Land.

Here is a fact. God wanted to rescue His people. God does not like to see His people suffer.

God does not like to see you and I suffer. But God will let us choose our own direction and path. He will say go this way but He won’t force His way or direction on you.

God gave you and I a free will. This means you are free to choose to follow God or not follow God. You get the choice to love or hate. You get to choose to serve or not serve. You get to choose to be a giver or taker. God will always love you even when we disobey Him His love never stops.

Love is unconditional. God’s blessings and favor they are not unconditional. They are conditional.

Conditional means “of or relating to something that will happen only if something else happens”.

“If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the best of the land;”

Isaiah 1:19 AMP

Here is an example of conditional. If is the key word here for conditional. The prize or reward is you will eat the best of the Land. You won’t get those rewards or prizes until you are willing and obedient.

You have to do something first before something else is to happen.

People view God like He is unconditional. His love is yes, but nothing else is.

Bibles says in order for you to receive forgiveness you must first forgive.

Bibles says in order to receive you must give first.

I love my grandkids, my love for them is unconditional. No matter what they do they will always have my love. I love them but I will not give them my credit card if they are not doing good in school. Conditional.

Moses leads them out of Egypt. The Israelites were in enslaved and placed in bondage for over 400 years. They lived 400 years among the Egyptians. The Egyptians were known for the idolatry. They worshiped many false Gods. You know the Egyptians got in their heads.

The Israelites are crying day and night for God to deliver them. God sends Moses but what He has to go thru just to convince them he was sent by God. God had to do all the crazy miracles not just to convince Pharos. God had to convince Moses and the People and they had to see all the miracles.

Even though they all seen the miracles with their own eyes they still kept trying to go backwards.

The First Nation of people under the leadership of Moses all died in the wilderness.

“Every commandment that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, so that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord swore [to give] to your fathers.”

Deuteronomy 8:1 AMP

Here was the original mandate of instruction to Moses to give to the people. They were conditional.

God gave the commandments. Here He says, Be careful to do. Here is the original reward was we would live and multiply. Go in and possess the land.

It breaks a Fathers heart who loves his children when with His love he can’t bless them.

God’s heart breaks every time He can not bless you. God wants so bad to shower you with so much more.

Today’s difficulties are often a result of yesterday’s disobedience.” ~ Priscilla Shirer

“Obedience is an act of faith; disobedience is the result of unbelief.” ~ Edwin Louis Cole

The very first instructions Joshua was be strong and very courageous.

I believe God said this because a whole nation lost here. They were not strong nor courageous. They were weak in their fears. They were more afraid of not eating than attaining their freedom.

They were more afraid of the Egyptians than God. Fear controlled them. Fear ruled them. Fear controlled them. They did not need to build a golden calf to worship. They already a golden calf, it was themselves. They put themselves way ahead of God.

Read here is what God is telling Joshua before all these instruction to prepare him.

God wants you and I to get ready because other people are depending on you to cross over.

10 spies convinced a whole nation to not obey God. 2 were faith filled but the masses was fear based.

The giants are to big. We are to little and weak.

What are we speaking when we face our giants that are standing in front of our blessings and promised land?

David could face and defeat Goliath but keeping his faith and trust in His God. Fear can not stand and block you when you know God and you know with Him all things are possible.

“For the Israelites walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, that is, the men of war who came out of Egypt, died because they did not listen to the voice of the Lord; to them the Lord had sworn [an oath] that He would not let them see the land which He had promised to their fathers to give us, a land [of abundance] flowing with milk and honey.”

Joshua 5:6 AMP

They died these were men of war who were afraid. They had fought battles and won. The opportunity for the greatest victory they gave up to wander in fear.

They died because they did not listen to the voice of the Lord.

The promised land never moved. They would go around and around getting to the edge but never crossing over.

Moses got to see it but not enter in.

This is why God is adamant to Joshua. You have to be strong and courageous. Most of the people you will lead do not have your level of faith.

If you quit they will quit. If you slow down the will stop. If you give up they will too.

“Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do [everything] in accordance with the entire law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may prosper and be successful wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:7 AMP

Careful to do everything.

January 28, 1986 the space shuttle Challenger lifts off from Cape Canaveral, Florida and Christa McAuliffe is on her way to becoming the first ordinary U.S. civilian to travel to space. She was 37 years old and a high school teacher. She won a contest that earned her the spot with the other 7 crew members.

Count down 10 9 8.  Lift off 73 seconds later the rocket burst into flames. It blew up killing everyone. When the investigation was finally over they said it was a faulty O- ring. A rubber o-ring.

God did not the same thing to happen to His people.

Do not turn to the right or to the left.

Here is God’s goal for us. This is your God and He wants you and I to experience this by our Obedience.

so that you may prosper and be successful wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:7 AMP

More instructions:

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.”

Joshua 1:8 AMP

The Word shall not depart from your mouth. What does this mean? We should be speaking only what God says about your life, situations, troubles, trials, hardships, etc.

The Word should be our response when something hits us.

Here it is again. You may be careful to do everything that is written.

so that you may prosper and be successful wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:7 AMP

for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.”

Joshua 1:8 AMP

Verse 7 says that you may prosper and be successful where ever you go.

Verse 8 for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will successful.

Look at the conditions that are before us. Prosperity and successful are a reward and is possible because it is conditional. There are things you have to do in order to receive this.

Verse 8 meditate is to speak it over and over and over.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””

Joshua 1:9 AMP

BE CAREFUL

A ton of prayer will not produce what an ounce of obedience will. Dr. Ed Cole
