7/11/2021 PART 1:
When you hear the word trouble your mind races to avoid this word. We don’t like trouble. We will do everything we can to avoid trouble. Remember as a kid going to principals office cause you got into trouble. Then knowing when you got home you was going to be in big trouble. Not just any trouble but BIG TROUBLE.
Troubles are problems or difficulties which agitate you mentally or spiritually which causes worry and frustration.
We all know we will experience troubles. We all deal with troubles everyday.
We need to prepare our hearts and minds that we will have trouble.
If you're gonna make a change... operate from a new belief that says life happens not to me but for me.
-- Tony Robbins
John 16:33 “I told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble, but be brave! I have defeated the world.”
Jesus is speaking to us directly. In this world you will have trouble. Why do we get so shocked when trouble stops, knocks at our door? Oh I am so sorry, trouble never knocks at the door, it usually just kicks in the back door when you are sleeping. No one enjoys trouble.
Troubles come to teach us something, to push us to grow, and encourage us to change. Yes I said it, “TO ENCOURAGE US TO CHANGE.”
When troubles happen we try to run from them, avoid them by denying them or hiding in bed under the covers. When you get up, take the blankets off the trouble is still there.
1. TROUBLE TEACHER TEACHES:
Troubles are teachers, meant to teach us something or somethings. Many things you and I can learn from troubles.
When I had the stroke that trouble taught me to look at me and value me. That trouble taught me to value and take care of my health. It taught me how my choices and decisions effect more people than just me. My wife and children and grandchildren were hurting and afraid for me.
Sometimes the uncomfortable things in life are there to teach us lessons because to go through a change of habit, we need to feel uncomfortable.
Troubles reveal things about us and how we are living and doing life. David was a worshiper and loved God. He danced before God and was very vocal in his faith. He faced a huge trouble called Goliath.
Goliath everyone else was afraid but David filled with faith and trust in His God defeated Goliath. What everyone else was afraid to face, he faced it with so much confidence.
Trouble showed how he trusted God and relied on God at the time. He is elevated and promoted to Captain leader of all the armies. He is riding high.
We will have many different kinds of trouble. Maybe health troubles, financial troubles, legal troubles, relationship troubles, emotional troubles, spiritual troubles, etc….
David is on cloud nine and he is on top of the world. He has everything he wants. He has the power and authority. He has the daughter of the king. He has wealth and fame and his family is debt-free. What more could he ask for.
More trouble is to come. David is super spiritual, super successful, super happy.
King gets so jealous of David’s success in battle he begins to plot the death of David.
This King Saul who prior blessed David with all the power and position, and his daughter changes. King Saul now seeks to kill and destroy David.
Trouble can come from this who blessed you and change to hurt you.
Troubles job is to teach us things if we are open to learn. If not we will get stuck in victim, offense, bitterness, and not get the lessons. See you, look at you, focus on you when trouble shows up.
How did you respond? Why did you react that way? What was going on in your mind and heart at the time of trouble?
David goes on the run from King Saul. He faces Goliath whom King Saul was to afraid to face. Now David is running and hiding for his life from King Saul.
He has to act like a deranged crazy person when passing threw other lands. He lives and hides in a cave in the land of the enemies with the Philistines.
See and learn. You can be super-spiritual and super successful and one trouble can take it all away for the moment. David got new trouble to learn some new things about himself.
Every trouble is to show you something about you, God, and life, and others.
2. TROUBLE IS PUSH US TO GROW:
When troubles teach something about us, God, life, and others we learn and now we must grow.
When you are open to let troubles teach you something you now are open to grow.
I had some plants that were starting to die because they had outgrown the little pots I had put them into. They were growing and need to enlarge the capacity for more growth.
If you ever study the process of how a seed becomes a living plant you will see the first process is the seed must be planted deep into the earth and dirt. Covered up, dark, and all alone. Then the seed has to die, the outer shell has to break open to release the seedling that is now alive. That seeding will grow faster deeper with roots then the stem will push upwards against the pressure of the dirt till it emerges to the rays of sunshine.
God created us to grow thru a similar process.
“As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so continue to live in him. Keep your roots deep in him and have your lives built on him. Be strong in the faith, just as you were taught, and always be thankful.”
Colossians 2:6-7 NCV
Sounds like that seedling process.
3. TROUBLES ENCOURAGE US TO CHANGE:
We were discussing the Identity of DCI and one of the truths is that we are a people who want more. More of God, more influence, more growth, more success, more, more.
Change is the only way to experience more. Maybe this is why many people try to avoid change. Troubles are meant to show and teach you something about you, life, God and others. Troubles are also meant to push you to grow. I like to call it Growing Forward.
We live in a time where many times we choose to live permanently in a place God extended to be temporary.
David was at his lowest point in life. He is alone, not speaking to God. He is negative, he is fearful and he feels abandoned by God. When trouble shows up to teach, it pushes you to grow by changing.
God will help in this place. He did not do this, but He allows trouble to move us to change. We fight change. We fight to do the right things.
You can't change the way things are but you can change the way you look at things.
You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.
-- Brian Tracy
Going through life's challenges requires strength -- a lot of strength -- both mental and physical because they go hand in hand. You need to stay strong. You need support from family and friends. Most importantly, you need to change your outlook on life. You need to understand that you can't change the way things are but you can change the way you look at things.
The secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do that, you're in control of your life. If you don't, life controls you.
