This message is titled, “SEEKING GOD-TRUE PRAYER.”

As a Pastor many people do not quite understand what prayer is and what it is not. I want to with Gods help enlighten your understanding what prayer is and what it is not.

Many people get angry at God when they feel they prayed and did not get what they wanted.

Many people run to God when they get in trouble or when a tragedy strikes. They pray and cry out to God for help. Many times God will move out of love for them hoping to reach their hearts and compel them to serve Him. Many times in reality they get help and leave and go back to a life of serving self. For many this is a revolving way of life. Needing God only when in a jam.

This is not prayer. Prayer is not throwing up a few Hail Marys or Hallelujahs.

WHAT IS TRUE PRAYER?

We must go back to the beginning of mankind and see.

God made man and seen and said it is not good for him to be alone so God made Woman. God created the world and put Adam in charge of it. Adam and Eve were stewards in the Garden of Eden. The moment God made man in His Image the Creator would create a relationship with His creation.

God and Adam and Eve walking and talking in the garden in the cool of the day. I see Adam asking God questions about the world, lakes, oceans, animals, etc. They would spend time everyday speaking and communing together. Like a young child or young person asking questions and getting advice. The father speaking wisdom, love and guidance into His Children.

Adam and Eve would spend time walking and talking and listening and receiving direction and instruction from God. God would speak and listen to their fears, struggles, questions, etc.

This is the original foundation for prayer.

How God loves to hear from us and not just when we need something or a quick thank you for your meal. God longs for restoration of fellowship with you.

Before Prayer is the relationship where we COMMUNE.

Communing means: share one’s intimate thoughts or feelings with (someone), especially on a spiritual level.

Communion comes from this word. Communion is not just a religious thing we do with bread and wine. It was an intimate communing with our God.

THE WORD SAYS WE ARE TO BE SEEKING GOD. IN THIS WORD I SEE THAT GOD WAS A SEEKER OF US FIRST. GOD IS SEEKING YOU TO SEEK HIM FOR RELATIONSHIPS.

“And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool [afternoon breeze] of the day, so the man and his wife hid and kept themselves hidden from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
Genesis 3:8 AMP

Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate from the tree they were strictly forbidden to eat from.

Here God is looking for His creation so they can commune together. They are hiding in the bushes. Revelation: you can not hide from your God. Their sin caused them to realize they were naked, they were guilt ridden, they were feeling shame and they hid from the presence of their God. This is why people many times will stop coming to church and step out of ministry because of these feelings. The same feelings that caused them to hid from the presence of God.

Jesus restored the broken relationship between us and our God. God is calling you and I to walk with Him again. He is calling your name, where are you? God is wanting to share secrets and ideas with you. His heart is calling you and I to come out of the bushes and commune with Him.

RELATIONSHIP: THIS IS THE REAL BEGINNING OF PRAYER. THIS IS THE REAL FOUNDATION OF PRAYER. WHEN I DO NOT KNOW SOMEONE IT IS CALLED COMMUNICATION. WHEN I KNOW THEM INTIMATELY IT’S CALLED COMMUNING. WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW GOD OR HAVE AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP RELATIONSHIP IS CALLED COMMUNICATION. THIS IS WHEN WE CRY OUT FOR HELP. GOD OF COURSE WILL STILL HELP PEOPLE WHO CALL OUT TO HIM. HIS DESIRE IS TAKE PEOPLE DEEPER IN HIM WITH RELATIONSHIP. HERE IS A GLIMSE OF GOD’S HEART FOR YOU AND I.

Matthew 6:7-8 AMP
“And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”

TRUE PRAYER IS ABOUT THE HEART NOT THE WORDS, OR BEING LOUD, OR HOW LONG OR BEGGING GOD FOR THINGS. PRAYER FOR SHOW TO OTHERS. SEE HOW SPIRITUAL I AM. TRUE PRAYER.

THIS WORD SAYS GOD ALREADY KNOWS WHAT WE NEED BEFORE WE ASK HIM. WHAT DOES HE WANT FROM US? COMMUNING AND COMMUNION, INTIMATE SHARING AND SPENDING TIME WITH HIM AS YOUR GOD. NOT JUST A BUNCH OF BEGGING WORDS BUT TIME SHARING AND LISTENING TO HIM SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT YOU AND YOUR LIFE.

Isaiah 41:10 AMP
“Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’”

WHEN I READ THIS IS REMINDS ME OF A FATHER WITH HIS CHILD. HOLDING OUR HANDS TO GET ACROSS THE STREET OR WALKING IN THE PARK. PICKING THEM UP AFTER THEY HAVE FALLEN.

“Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”
Corrie ten Boom

“True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that – it is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.”
Charles Spurgeon

Prayer should not be regarded as a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty.”
E.M. Bounds

THESE WERE TRUE PRAYING PEOPLE. MOVING FROM INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP TO SPEAKING OUR NEEDS AND WANTS TO GOD WHO CARES FOR TRUE PRAYER.

Mark 11:22-26 AMP
“Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you. Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him [drop the issue, let it go], so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings [against Him and others]. [ But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”

PRAYER STARTS OUT WITH FAITH IN GOD CONSTANTLY.

NEXT PRAYER IS WHAT YOU SPEAK AND NOT DOUBT.

NEXT BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU SAY IS GOING TO TAKE PLACE, IT WILL BE DONE FOR YOU. NEXT BELIEVE WHAT YOU ASK IN PRAYER YOU WILL RECEIVE AND BE GIVEN TO YOU. NEXT LOOK WITHIN YOUR HEART. ANYTHING AGAINST ANYONE, FORGIVE SO YOU CAN BE FORGIVEN.

IF YOU LOOK AT ALL THE SCRIPTURES ABOUT PRAYER THEY ARE TEACHING AND TRAINING US WHO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN BORN AGAIN AND BROUGHT INTO RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

THESE SCRIPTURES ARE NOT FOR THE UNBELIEVER, BUT THE BELIEVER.

Mark 11:24 AMP
“For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.

THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN STEP INTO THIS TRUE PRAYER IS A BELIEVER.

Philippians 4:6 AMP
“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.”

1 John 5:14 AMP
“This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us.”

Colossians 4:2 AMP
“Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 AMP
“Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer;”
