I remember for years I had lots of tools. I had tool boxes full of tools I collected for many years. I remember one day selling some and just giving and get ride of them. No tools meant I was borrowing tools from my son n law. So one day not sure why he buys me a tool box full of all the tools I would need so I did not have to borrow anymore.
God has given us many tools and weapons to use for different purposes. Some to fight with and some to build with.
We will have to do a series called, “Gods tools and weapons.”
David had a sling shot to defeat Goliath, but he also had a harp to sooth King David for peace in sleeping and worshiping His God.
Nehemiah when the we’re rebuilding the walls the people had a shovel in one hand and a sword strapped on their side. Warfare and building with tools and weapons.
We will look at a God given tool and weapon, YOUR TONGUE, YOUR WORDS.
We live in a world where words are being spoken so fast and with no limit on the amount of words they just fly out every where with no checks and balances.
The average person speaks over 7000 words a day. Most people speak 120-150 words a minute. That is a lot of speaking. We know there are others who go way beyond these numbers. This average for the average person. These words, tools and weapons are being RELEASED TO ACCOMPLISH.
How many of our words are spoken out of fear, negative, anger, regret, hurt, bitter, jealousy, prideful, egotistical, confused, loneliness, hopeless, judging, sarcastic, destructive, deadly, toxic, ungodly, etc.?
How many of our words are faith, loving, positive, inspiring, caring, motivating, hopeful, healing, uplifting, Godly, etc.?
Think for a moment all these words flying so fast and they are like daggers and arrows and swords, shovels, sledge hammers, weapons and tools. What are we building or what are we destroying?
How many times when you get upset do you start speaking without a thought about the words you speak, and how they affect the people you are speaking them too?
Proverbs 18:21 AMP
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.”
Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Death, destructive, toxic, kill, ending, and life, new beginning, brand new, fresh, are created with the power of the tongue. This tongue is powerful. God knew what He was doing by creating us in HIS IMAGE. GOD CREATED EVERYTHING WITH HIS SPOKEN WORD. IT WAS NOT, THEN IT WAS, BY HIS WORD.
ANYTHING THAT HAS ALOT OF POWER USUALLY IS COVERED WITH WARNING SIGNS. EVERYONE IS WALKING AROUND DOING LIFE HEALING AND KILLING, BUILDING AND DESTROYING WITH THEIR TOUNGE.
PEOPLE SAY YOU HAVE A BIG MOUTH, LOUD MOUTH, DIRTY MOUTH. YOUR MOUTH IS NOT THE CULPRIT. YOUR MOUTH IS THE HOUSE OF THE CULPRIT YOUR TONGUE. IF YOU HAD NO TONGUE NO WORDS JUST SOUNDS.
Proverbs 18:21 MSG
“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”
THE Word says we will either produce fruit or poison. Fruit is healthy, sweet, good for you. Poison is deadly, makes you sick and can ultimately kill you.
REMEMBER WHAT THE SYMBOL FOR POISON IS CROSS BONES AND SKULL, DEATH.
PUT UP PICTURE OF SKULL AND CROSS BONES.
WE WILL EITHER EAT THE FRUIT OR BEAR THE CONSEQUENCES.
CONSEQUENCE MEANS : something that happens or something produced as a result of a particular action or set of conditions.
BEAR: TO ACCEPT OR ENDURE SOMETHING DIFFICULT TO DO OR DEAL WITH.
WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHOOSE OUR WORDS BEFORE WE SPEAK. OUR TONGUES HAVE NEVER BEEN TRAINED OR DISCIPLINED.
Proverbs 17:27 AMP
“He who has knowledge restrains and is careful with his words, And a man of understanding and wisdom has a cool spirit (self-control, an even temper).”
The person who has KNOWLEDGE RESTRAINS, CAREFUL WITH HIS WORDS.
THE PERSON OF UNDERSTANDING AND WISDOM, COOL SPIRIT – SELF-CONTROL, EVEN TEMPER.
IT TAKES DISCIPLINE TO SHUT OUR MOUTHS, IT TAKES RESTRAINT TO BE CAREFUL WITH OUR WORDS. IT TAKES TRAINING.
WE ARE TRAINING OUR BRAINS, AND BODY BUT WHO TRAINS YOUR MOUTH?
“Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving];”
Quick to hear, be a careful, thoughtful listener, slow to speak, a speaker of carefully chosen words, and slow to anger PATIENT, REFLECTIVE, FORGIVING.
PART OF THE HOLY SPIRITS PRESENCE IS TO HELP US CONTROL OUR TONGUE. WHEN YOU GET MAD OR ANGRY AND JUST LET WHAT EVER FLY OUT OF YOUR MOUTH YOU ARE OPERATING IN THE FLESH, NATURAL MAN WHICH CAN NOT PRODUCE MIRACLES, SUPERNATURAL, JUST PROBLEMS AND PAIN.
Psalms 141:3 AMP
“Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].”
David new how powerful his tongue was. He spoke words that would set his course of loss and pain and destruction. He also spoke words that would lift, strengthen, and empower Him and others.
David really new and had a respect but also a healthy fear for His words. Why ask God to set a guard over his mouth? To keep watch over the door of my lips. To keep me and you from speaking thoughtless words.
Thoughtless words like: I can’t do this anymore. I don’t care. Forget you. I am sick and tired. What’s the use. I will never change. He will never change. They are no good. I don’t need you. I hate myself. I hate you. God, you don’t care. I am useless and stupid.
Thousands of thoughtless words flow thru our mouth everyday with no check, no discipline.
We are eating the fruit and bearing the consequences. Many times what we must bear because of our spoken words is not really what we want. We because we have not learned to guard the door of our mouths.
Every been to a place where they have a guard at the door? When I go to the bank they have two guards posted at the door. The guard speaks to you, checks you and asks what your needs are before allowing you in the bank.
A guard is set at the door of your mouth to control what is allowed to go out into your world. A very destructive or toxic word is racing for your door of your mouth but the guard catches that word and stops it in its tracks and it’s not allowed out.
Ever hear someone say, I just speak my mind or what I think. Here is really what you are saying, “I have no control or discipline with my words, I can’t control myself.”
Proverbs 12:18 NCV
“Careless words stab like a sword, but wise words bring healing.”
GOD CREATED EVERYTHING THAT KNOW BY HIS SPOKEN WORD. This what God says about His Words. Our words have the same power. I want you to discipline and respect this powerful tool and weapon you have been given from God.
STOP ABUSING YOUR TOOLS AND WEAPONS. MATURE AND UNDERSTAND THE TRUE AND REAL POWER OF YOUR TONGUE.
Isaiah 55:11 NCV.
“The same thing is true of the words I speak. They will not return to me empty. They make the things happen that I want to happen, and they succeed in doing what I send them to do.”
WORDS WHEN SPOKEN AND RELEASED WILL NOT COME BACK EMPTY. THEY MAKE THE THINGS HAPPEN WHAT YOU SPOKE THEM TO DO. YOUR WORDS SUCCEED IN DOONG WHAT YOU SENT THEM TO DO.
POWER, CREATIVE POWER. YOUR WORDS NUCLEAR WEAPON. BUILDING OR DESTROYING, HEALING OR KILLING.
LIFE AND DEATH ARE IN THE POWER OF YOUR TONGUE. THIS IS A PRINCIPLE WE ALL LIVE WITH WEATHER YOU BELIEVE OR NOT. IT’S REAL.
Mark 11:22-23 AMP
“Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will].”
