Make Up Your Mind

Sermon Notes

When we say we want a new life or we want something different we have to be very clear to ourselves what we really want. Sometime we want things but we don’t want to actually pay the price to achieve it. A new life or better life is going to cost especially in God.

God did the most work but we have our part to play in this transformation. We can’t expect God to do it all just because we prayed. We have to work, we have to be intentional. It is so easy to say you want a new life but not want to do anything different.

Remember, the saying, “it is impossible for you to expect different results if you keep doing the same things.” If you keep doing the same things the same way you get the same results.

Change or transformation. There are only really two ways to experience this transformation. One is repetition this doing doing over and over and over till it becomes apart of your life. The other is something traumatic, like when I had the stroke. It took no real effort to change my lifestyle. I wanted to live so I choose to eat what is best for me to live. I exercise regular and consistently. I choose to manage stress and not let it control me. I eat to live not I live to eat. Food is fuel to me not something i run to fell good or comfort me.

I tried to change so many times. I tried to loose weight so many times. But really it was not a lifestyle. It was just a change that did not move into transformation. It was a change that kept changing back and forth.

“Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 AMP

“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 MSG

“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT

This is our greatest battle in moving forward. People hold onto the past events, memories, good and bad. The truth is you can’t move forward holding onto things in the past. Victories as well as failures if they are past they are past, let them pass.

We try to hold onto our greatest times. But you can’t move forward if you do.

Do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past, why? You will compare and compare till you make yourself believe that the past is so much better than your future.

When Moses and God was trying to lead Israel out of bondage from Egypt, they kept looking back, talking back, thinking back till they kept crying to go back. God can not lead a man till he makes up his mind which way he is wanting to go.

Jesus says follow me and turns and walks, it is up to you if you want to go His direction. He will not force you nor will He make you. Someone said, “if it is Gods Will He will do it.” No, not necessarily, He says choose, obey, trust me and follow me. If you obey God you get Obedience results. If you disobey you get disobedience results.

“For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].”
James 1:7-8 AMP

“Such doubters are thinking two different things at the same time, and they cannot decide about anything they do. They should not think they will receive anything from the Lord.”
James 1:7-8 NCV

If we want to transform, we must first get inside our minds and hearts this is really what you want. When you are double minded you can’t really do anything or go forward you are just stuck. Double minded is you have two different mentalities. This is when you want to serve God but then you want to serve you. You want to love but you don’t want to forgive and forget. The two different minds will be in conflict with each other.

Remember the guy with the little angel and little devil on both sides of his head by his ears. They both are trying to get him to move in their directions. Good verses bad. Happy verses sad. Nice verses mean. God verses you.
Make up your mind.

“You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”— Marcus Aurelius
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

Viktor Frankl

Victor Frankl wrote a book called, “Mans search for meaning.” He wrote from his experience as a Jew surviving the German concentration camps for years. When you find meaning you can survive pain, hurt and tragedy. You still have a choice in how you want to live.

My philosophy of life is that if we make up our mind what we are going to make of our lives, then work hard toward that goal, we never lose – somehow we win out.
Ronald Reagan

When we do not choose our own minds we let circumstances and situations move us. Because we do not like pain or suffering we choose the easiest routes. You can’t control outside situations but you can take control of your mind and thoughts. You have the power to choose.

“But if you don’t want to serve the LORD, you must choose for yourselves today whom you will serve. You may serve the gods that your ancestors worshiped when they lived on the other side of the Euphrates River, or you may serve the gods of the Amorites who lived in this land. As for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”
Joshua 24:15 NCV

Make up your mind whom you are going to serve, and serve whole heartedly.

BE ALERT, BE PRESENT AND LISTEN CAREFULLY.

FORGET WHAT IS THE PAST. GET YOUR LIFE FORWARD FOCUS. PROGRESS IS IN FRONT OF US NOT BEHIND US. WHAT IS BEHIND YOU IS TO DISTRACT YOU AND KEEP YOU STUCK.

GOD SAYS BE ALERT, BE PRESENT, AND LISTEN CAREFULLY. YOU CAN NOT DO ANY OF THESE THINGS HOLDING AND LIVING IN THE PAST, GOOD OR NOT SO GOOD.

THERE IS AN AWARENESS GOD IS CALLING US TO. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN AND I GOT STATIONED ON AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER. THEY DRILLED THESE THREE AND A FEW OTHERS INTO ME AND OTHERS. I WORKED ON THE FLIGHT DECK CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS WORKING ENVIRONMENTS IN THE WORLD. I DID IT FOR A YEAR.

NUMBER ONE RULE YOU CAN NOT STAY IN THE SAME PLACE FOR MORE THAN 5 SECONDS. YOU HAD TO KEEP MOVING IN AND AND OUT AND AROUND. NO ONE WAS JUST STANDING STILL.

GOD SAYS HE IS DOING A NEW THING: HE SAYS RIVERS IN THE DESERT ROADS IN THE WILDERNESS. I AM GOING TO PUT WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THERE BUT ITS NOT NATURAL. IT WILL HAVE TO BE SUPERNATURAL.

NEW THING IN OLD PLACES. THE DESERT WAS ALWAYS THERE, BUT THE RIVER WAS NOT.

THERE ARE THINGS HAT HAVE NOT BEEN IN YOUR LIFE BUT GOD IS SAYING I AM DOING A NEW THING. WHAT NEW THING IS NEEDED IN YOUR LIFE?

What new thing could you use in your life?

A road in the wilderness? There is no road there yet, but God.

When you choose to move in the direction of God and His Ways here is how He moves. They were slaves and tortured and abused. No rights.

They obey God and look how they leave.

“The LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they gave them what they asked. And so they plundered the Egyptians [of those things].”
Exodus 12:36 AMP

“The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth!”
Exodus 12:36 NLT
