Sermon Notes

Today in our series LIVING IN VICTORY, we are looking at the power of friends. The Bible has a lot to say about fiends and friendships.

What does true friendship mean to you? Video https://youtu.be/ozTrgZdntwI

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
– Walter Winchell.

To me this friends stick with you when others take off.

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.
— Dale Carnegie

Friendship starts when you more interested in others first. This could be why many people do not have very close friends.

A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.
– Unknown.

I love this one. Friend, understands, believes, accepts the way you are. Maybe this why so many relationships fail. People want people to be a certain way.

A true friend never gets in your way unless you happen to be going down.
– Arnold H. Glasgow

Friends are great cheerleaders bust also will catch you falling.

If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.
– Zig Ziglar

Being a friend will attract friends to you. When you truly care about people, they will see, feel, and know it’s real.

Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something: they’re trying to find someone who’s going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place that you go to take.
— Anthony Robbins

Friends are givers. What do you give your friends. Do you have any friends.

A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.” Shakespeare “Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.
— Oprah Winfrey

I remember when I was at the top I had a lot of so called friends. When things changed there was only a hand full of real friends. Friends see you, not your bank account, see you not where you live or what you drive.

If you make friends with yourself you will never be alone.
– Maxwell Maltz

I got that If you don’t like yourself you’ll probably not like others. Be kind to you. Like you, then love you.

A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked.
– Bernard Meltzer

Friends are the family you choose.
– Jess C. Scott

This to me is you can’t choose your family, but friends are the real family. Blood is not thicker than water unless it’s Jesus blood. I have friends in this church, we are the real family.

Friendship is like money, easier made than kept.
– Samuel Butler

A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.
– Shakespeare

There is a magnet in your heart that will attract true friends. That magnet is unselfishness, thinking of others first; when you learn to live for others, they will live for you.

Some men came carrying on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed, and they tried to bring him in and lay him down in front of Jesus. But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof [and removed some tiles to make an opening] and lowered him through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their [active] faith [springing from confidence in Him], He said, “Man, your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 5:18-20 AMP

Picture this scene. Maybe about 4-6 guys carrying this guy who is paralyzed. People do not just carry a guy who knows how far to receive healing from Jesus. These guys must of been his friends. It does not say they were family. Just some men.

They tried to bring him in and lay him down in front of Jesus but the crowds were blocking the entrance.
Do realize most people won’t go to this extreme for anyone. Many families members won’t put out this much effort to help you.

I have called family and blood for help only to not receive it. It was just so easy to give excuses and not help.

Remember that quote FRIENDS ARE THE FAMILY YOU CHOOSE. I HAVE FOUND OUT MY GREATEST FRIENDS HAVE BECOME MY REAL FAMILY.

THERE ARE PEOPLE IN HEAR WHO WOULD GIVE AND DO ANYTHING FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO CAN COUNT ON ME THE SAME WAY.

THEY CAN NOT GET THEIR PARALYZED FRIEND INTO SEE JESUS. THEY CARE SO MUCH THEY WILL NOT EXCEPT THE FACT THAT THEY CAN NOT GET IN TO SEE JESUS. THESE ARE REAL AND TRUE FRIENDS.

But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof [and removed some tiles to make an opening] and lowered him through the tiles with his stretcher, into the middle of the crowd, in front of Jesus.
Luke 5:19 AMP

But because there were so many people there, they could not find a way in. So they went up on the roof and lowered the man on his mat through the ceiling into the middle of the crowd right before Jesus.
Luke 5:19 NCV

If they were not real friends they would just left him at the front door. No these are real friends. They really care, they are not even thinking about themselves. Crazy, the obstacles or challenge does not stop them. They crazy care so they haul their friend up onto the roof, begin to tear a hole in a roof of a home that was not theirs. Are getting this picture. They are risking getting arrested, they are risking their personal finances because they are tearing apart of the roof. This is no little hole, it has to be big enough to let down their friend who is paralyzed just in front of Jesus. They do not care about being embarrassed, they don’t care about getting in trouble, they don’t care if it cost them money. They don’t care about their time or energy, they are doing this for their friend because their friend can not do it for himself.
THEY DO IT AND LOWER THEIR FRIEND RIGHT IN FRONT OF JESUS.

When Jesus saw their [active] faith [springing from confidence in Him], He said, “Man, your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 5:20 AMP

Seeing their faith, Jesus said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 5:20 NCV

A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
Proverbs 17:17 AMP

A friend loves you all the time, and a brother helps in time of trouble.
Proverbs 17:17 NCV

The man of too many friends [chosen indiscriminately] will be broken in pieces and come to ruin, But there is a [true, loving] friend who [is reliable and] sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 AMP

Some friends may ruin you, but a real friend will be more loyal than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 NCV

This is talking about Jesus. Who said I will never leave you nor forsake you. EVER.
