The Power To Win

Sermon Notes

I was listening to a podcast about why people fail. Why some people don’t grow or make progress? Many people who are helping people in-all areas, like medical, counseling, trainers, coaches, bosses, parents, spouses, etc. have the same complaint. Their number one frustration is people do not follow the direction or orders, they do what they feel like doing. When they do not feel like doing it they quit.

Doctors get so frustrated when they give you, as a patient, the doctor’s orders. However, people do not follow the orders. We do it for a little bit but when we feel better we do what we want too.

The other day I cleaned out my medicine cabinet, it was full of half empty medications.

My doctors said because I stopped taking blood pressure medications, I helped to create the stroke I had a few months ago.

We all know how to create better health, but most people do not do as ordered. We know what to eat and what not to eat, but we choose to, eat whatever and whenever.

I stopped doing major counseling because I realize most people won’t do as instructed. People kept coming to over and over for the same things.

Quote: The highest form of insanity is the keep believing and wanting and praying for change but you keep doing the same things you done all along.

Jesus called people to be his disciples. He said follow me and I will make you fishers of men. He turned and kept walking. Peter, Andrew, James, & John dropped their nets followed him and became Disciples. Time goes by and Jesus is still doing Kingdom business.

“As a result of this many of His disciples abandoned Him, and no longer walked with Him.”
JOHN 6:66 AMP

If you read the story Jesus is teaching harder truths and many of his disciples got upset, offended, angry and decided to leave Jesus. He foretold of the betrayal by Judus.

People start out open and excited to learn and grow, but then something happens. They stop doing the things they were supposed to do. They stop loving, they stop giving, they stop serving, they stop living in faith, they stop working, they stop being loyal, they stop caring, they stop taking care of themselves, they stop coming to church, they stop, they stop doing the things that would create the life they wanted.

We love to use excuses to let ourselves off the hook. She made me do it. We got that one from Adam.

We go to classes, conventions, conferences, church services, counseling, schools, courses, but the key to winning is to do what you are instructed to do.

These disciples lost. They stopped following Jesus because they got upset, offended, angry, and made the excuse to leave because they felt justified. THEY LOST WHEN THEY COULD OF WON. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS, DO WHAT JESUS SAID TO DO.

There is a conflict inside of us. One side wants to follow Jesus and do right and the other side wants to follow ourselves and not do right.

Remember the man who wanted his son healed, he kept saying I believe but help me in my unbelief. Back and forth, you can’t win, you can’t have progress, there is no victory in this back and forth life style.

“But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].”
JAMES 1:6-8 AMP

Faith or non faith which is natural or human reasoning. Why do some people win and why do most quit? Why did all those hundreds of disciples leave, quit but only the 11 stayed?

“So Jesus said to the twelve [disciples], “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Simon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You [alone] have the words of eternal life [you are our only hope].”
JOHN 6:67-68 AMP

Here is why some people win, create success, joy, purpose, amazing lives and some don’t. The reason is most people let what happens to them control them. People let situations and circumstances control their choices, control their direction, control their peace and power.

See this is how I see it, most people when doing life something negative happens they take their eye off the prize or goal and set their vision on what happened or what they are going thru or who hurt them.

Jesus turns to Peter and says do you want to leave also? Listen to Peters response, “Lord, to whom shall we do? You alone have the words of eternal life, YOU ARE OUR ONLY HOPE.

All the other disciples did not have a strong enough belief or reason to take it and keep following Jesus. They followed till it got tuff. We all will have challenges and may even get knocked down but the key is to bounce back up quickly.

Peter said YOU ARE OUR ONLY HOPE. When we are doing life and stuff happens, someone hurts your feelings, you get involved in a not so good relationship, loose your job or challenges in the business, family issues, we get mad or upset, on and on I see people do just like these hundred of disciples did, they quit and leave.

God loves you and I enough to let us leave. He will release you to go and experience life without His Peace and Power. He will let you be self led instead of Spirit led to see the difference and hopefully make your way back to Him like the prodigal son did. Come home to your Fathers House.

When you know like Peter, JESUS YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE. YOU ARE THE ANCHOR OF MY SOUL. YOU ARE MY ROCK. YOU ARE MY LIFE.

WHEN WE HAVE THIS ENGRAINED HEART BELIEF WE WILL WIN EVENTUALLY. JESUS WON SO WE WIN. IF WE KEEP DOING AS HE INSTRUCTS US.

“Peter replied, “Master, to whom would we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life. We’ve already committed ourselves, confident that you are the Holy One of God.””
John 6:68-69 MSG

When Peter says YOU ARE OUR ONLY HOPE, WHAT HE IS SAYING WE ALREADY COMMITTED OURSELVES.

Commitment is the difference between winners and losers. Commitment is the difference between who have success and those who don’t. Commitment is the difference between those who live out their dreams and those who don’t. Commitment is the difference between those who walk in Gods Favor and those who don’t.
Commitment is the difference between those who experience higher levels of God and those who don’t.

The difference between Peter and the hundred or so disciples who got offended and left was Peter was committed. Commitment was the difference between Peter following Christ all the way to the end of his life. He had a few challenges but he got up and kept on following and doing God’s Will.

“Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.”
GALATIANS 6:9 AMP

“So let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.”
Galatians 6:9 GNB

“We must continue to do things that are good and we should not get tired. If we do not feel weak and stop doing good things, then we will receive a good harvest at the proper time.”
Galatians 6:9 EASY

Doing Good is Doing God.

“Commit your works to the LORD [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].”
PROVERBS 16:3 AMP

“Depend on the LORD in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”
Proverbs 16:3 NCV

“Ask the LORD to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out.”
Proverbs 16:3 GNB

“Trust [rely on and have confidence] in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and feed [securely] on His faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; Trust in Him also and He will do it.”
PSALMS 37:3-5 AMP

TRUST-DWELL-FEED-DELIGHT-COMMIT-TRUST = HE WILL DO IT.

THIS IS HOW YOU WIN IN LIFE: YOU DON’T WIN BY CHEATING, TAKING SHORT CUTS, YOU WIN BY FOLLOWING THE LORD’S INSTRUCTIONS AND THEN YOU GET HIS RESULTS.

“Give yourself to the LORD; trust in him, and he will help you;”
Psalms 37:5 GNB

The difference between involvement and commitment is like ham and eggs. The chicken is involved; the pig is committed.

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”
