SERMON NOTES

Have you ever seen some peoples video when they are walking or jogging or running. The results are the video is shaking all over the place and it so difficult to watch it and make since.

That is kind of like life. Life is not always perfect. As a matter of fact there will be challenges that will shake up your life, your family, your future, your business, your relationships, your finances, your walk with God.

I remember after 9/11 our world was never the same. I remember trying to board a plane and the hours and hours of waiting to go thru security. Fear was so strong that many people did not fly for quite some time.

God does not stop things from hitting us. We are all going to go thru challenges, trials, traumatic events sometimes. No one is exempt from these events, circumstances, situations that will come to TEST YOU.

I was at the gym one day and there was this little older man in his 80’s. He was standing on this work out half of ball with a solid flat bottom. He had the ball side facing the ground and he was standing on the flat part trying to keep his balance. I just watched him wobble and keep his balance. He did it and would move and shake but he kept his balance. When he finished I asked him what he was doing. He said, “Balancing.” I did not understand balance, explain I said. He said, “old people when they fall they break.” I realized he did not want to break so he was practicing balancing in order not to fall. He was very stable on top of the ball. It was great.

Here is what happens to so many believers. They get saved and they start feeling good about life and Jesus and church. They pray, they forgive, the tithe, they even begin to serve in their local church. Life is going great, they might even invite and bring people to their church. Life is going so sweet. They are increasing in business, the are pumped.

Then a 2 X 4 hits them. It hits their family, it hits their finance, it hits their relationships, it hits their commitments, it hits their health, etc. You get the picture.

I have seen people who start out loving God He does so much for them when they have nothing. He helps them to believe in themselves and grow and increase but when they get it, they stop the worship, they stop the giving, they stop their commitments, they stop their faith and they just give up and quit. I have seen it over and over in so many peoples lives. They go for God when things are great but when the hit comes they are gone. Up and down this cycle creates a stronghold in their lives.

We live in a generation where being committed to anything is to much. I just read the next young generation many do not even believe in God, nor marriage, nor any of the values and morales I grew up with. They are the most unstable of all the generations. They believe in nothing but self and committed to nothing but self. That is scary.

STABILITY MEANS: the state of being stable. THE quality, state, or degree of being stable: the strength to stand or endure : FIRMNESS

STABLE MEANS: steady in purpose and firm in resolution. Firmly established, firm and steadfast. Stable implies lastingness because of resistance to being overturned or replaced.

Our lives will be challenged with challenges. I am a nice guy. I am a good guy. I pastor, I am husband, I am father, I am grandfather. Yet last month my world was turned up side down or inside out. One week emergency gall bladder surgery, the next week a stroke, real full stroke, the next week scorpion sting. The next few weeks dealing with the thought of I could die really easy the next few weeks. Last week Falicidy get the news that this hotel turned over management to another company. My guy Stan quit and a new person took over. They email a letter saying that starting October 1 they are going to charge us $2000 a service. Wow. Talk about a 2X4. Then I find out Falicidy knew but did not want to tell me because she did not want me to pass on to the next life.

Come on God, I have been through enough. Come on God its me Joseph your servant.

HERE IS THE SAD STORY: WE ARE NOT PREPARED FOR STORMS, WE ARE NOT PREPARED FOR HARDSHIPS, WE ARE NOT PREPARED FOR 2X4. God has tried to prepare us all thru his word.

WATCH

In this story is a wise man or woman and a foolish man or woman. Both built houses, or lives but how and where they built them is the key as you will see.

We are looking at spiritual stability.

“So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, will be like a wise man [a far-sighted, practical, and sensible man] who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
MATTHEW 7:24-25 AMP

LISTEN TO THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARATIONS:

1. Hear the Word

2. Act on them or does what it says.

3. Will be like a wise man—farsighted, practical, and sensible man
4. Built his house (life) on the ROCK (Jesus)
5. Storms SLAMMED AGAINST YOUR HOUSE (LIFE)

6. YET IT DID NOT FALL.

7. IT WAS FOUNDED (FOUNDATION) ON THE ROCK (JESUS)

PEOPLE WILL CALL ME WHEN THE SKILLET HITS THE FAN, THEY SAY WHAT AM I GOING TO DO. HEAR THE WORD, DO THE WORD AND WISDOM IN YOU, SLAMMED BY STORMS BUT YOU WON’T FALL, SOLID FOUNDATION.

PEOPLE WHO FALL APART JUST SHOW THEY DID NOT HAVE THE ROCK AS THEIR FOUNDATION.

LIFE IS FULL OF TEST. ITS A TEST. I HAVE SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE FALL APART, QUIT, GIVE UP, GIVE IN, WHERE IS OUR STABILITY?

“And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be like a foolish (stupid) man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great and complete was its fall.”
MATTHEW 7:26-27 AMP

1. Hear the Word
2. Does not do them

3. Foolish, stupid man or woman

4. Built house (life) on the sand

5. Storms Slammed against your house (life)

6. IT FELL AND GREAT WAS ITS FALL

BOTH HEARD THE WORD: BOTH BUILD LIVES, BOTH HAD STORMS. THIS IS FOR EVERYONE. HEARING THE WORD IS NOT GOING TO SAVE OR PROTECT YOU. HEARING IS NOT ENOUGH. SO SITTING IN A CHURCH SERVICE WILL NOT PROTECT YOUR LIFE. ITS HEARING AND DOING THE WORD THAT IS THE ONLY PROTECTION AND INSURANCE.

“You see that [his] faith was working together with his works, and as a result of the works, his faith was completed [reaching its maturity when he expressed his faith through obedience].” JAMES 2:22 AMP

STABLE MEANS: steady in purpose and firm in resolution. Firmly established, firm and steadfast. Stable implies lastingness because of resistance to being overturned or replaced.

“Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the
work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually
aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is
never without purpose].”
