Freedom for Others

Joseph LephiewSermons, True Freedom

SERMON NOTES

Freedom is a great thing. It is so easy to take for granted the freedom we have in this country.

I served in the military for 6 years. Our country was founded with this concept we would be free to choose for ourselves our destiny. I read and hear people talking down the United States and how bad we are as a nation. If we were so bad and so messed up why do so many tens of thousands of people risk their lives for a chance to create a life here. We as so many of Americans do complain and complain and argue and whine about things here.

America is the greatest country in the world. No where do people have the freedoms we have here. If you have never been outside of this country I encourage you to see for yourself and then you can see how great we really do have it here.

Yvonne and I one of our ports was Roatan Honduras. The ship we were on carried 6000 people. Over 2000 were the ships staff, over 2000 was kids and teens. The other 2000 was adults.

This port was so small and simple and I thought for such a huge ship and so many people. We decided to not do really any excursions or tours. We were just going to walk and explore for ourselves. The guys were screaming and pulling on us to get our attention to hire them as taxis, tour guides it was crazy. Yvonne and I seemed to be the only people walking. As we neared the gate the men began to shout and yell and the port authority was pushing them back outside of the gates. Guys at least 20 plus trying to get our attention for business. We pushed through and and this huge guy and this young street wise young man began to go at it so I just pushed Yvonne forward and soon the young man got rid of the huge guy. He says his name and he will take us and guide us the sights, where to go and where not to go. At the end we can give him a tip of whatever. We agree.

Children running up to you to sell little bracelets that the old grandmother hand made. On and on we seen the poverty, the pain, the lack. They viewed us coming off the ship as Rich People.

They seen us as the Rich and Powerful Americans. WE have it all.

This young man had dreams, but he could not see how and where he was to create it. The children many of them wore rags passed down over and over. I remember a young boy begging for money to get supplies for school. Every time we bought something we asked to pray for them.

There was a little store that sold women art and crafts to help them take care of their children.

They had about 10 women. Yvonne just loved on them, bought their stuff. It was a ministry to also give a percentage for the children and school clothes and supplies.

I wanted so bad to just check out for 2 weeks. No ministry just tanning and resting and playing.

We did all that but I soon realized that Ministry is not what you do it’s about WHO YOU REALLY ARE. WHEN ITS A JOB AND YOU GET FRUSTRATED BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO SERVE YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

We gave hope, love, encouragement, faith, compassion, vision, etc. not because we have too but because that is WHO WE ARE.

The song, Way Maker, that is who you are. God this is who we are.

JOHN 8:36.
“So if the Son makes you free, then you are unquestionably free.”

FREEDOM COMES FROM JESUS. WHAT JESUS DID WHEN YOU RECEIVE IT AND EMBRACE IT, IT MAKES YOU FREE.

WE CAN NOT MAKE OURSELVES FREE, JESUS DID IT, PAYED THE PRICE FOR OUR FREEDOM. HE PURCHASED OUR FREEDOM.

YOU CAN NOT GIVE AWAY WHAT YOU DO NOT REALLY HAVE. FREEDOM IS A GIFT, BUT YOU CAN NOT GIVE AWAY WHAT YOU DO NOT HAVE FOR YOUR SELF.

Galatians 5:1
“We have freedom now, because Christ has made us free.

Our freedom was bought by Christ and we have to choose to be that, live there, stand in it, walk in it. It is a position of the heart. It is a choice of our thinking.

Jesus gave us freedom, but if you choose not believe, think, live walk in freedom you will be free in principle but live in bondage by choice.

When God used Moses to lead the Israelites out of bondage remember, they were free on the other side of the Red Sea. There was a problem, the were physically free, but they were not free in their thinking or beliefs. They were controlled by fear, resentment, oppression, pride, etc.

Freedom was given by Christ, but you and I must take our responsibility to walk in it, live in it, sleep in it.

GALATIANS 5:13-14
“For you, my brothers, were called to freedom; only do not let your freedom become an opportunity for the sinful nature
(worldliness, selfishness), but through love serve and seek the best for one another. For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is fulfilled in one precept, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF [that is, you shall have an unselfish concern for others and do things for their benefit].””

We were called to FREEDOM.

Galatians 5:13 NCV “My brothers and sisters, God called you to be free, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful self. Serve each other with love.”

Called you to be free. Free from guilt, free from hate, free from addictions, free from sickness, free from condemnation. Freedom.

Freedom has conditions. God gave us freedom, but do not use your freedom to do whatever pleases your selfishness.

Selfishness means: concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others.

Selfishness will destroy your freedom. This is what the enemy uses to destroy lives and destiny.

Freedom is to be used through love to serve and seek the best for others. Freedom comes from Christ love for us. It is to be used to help others. Selfish people are not walking and living in His Freedom. Selfishness is flesh bondage.

It does not care about anyone but itself.

GALATIANS 5:14 AMP
“For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is fulfilled in one precept, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF [that is, you shall have an unselfish concern for others and do things for their benefit].””

LUKE 4:18 AMP
““THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME (the Messiah), BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO ANNOUNCE RELEASE (pardon, forgiveness) TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy),”

LUKE 4:18 AMP
“TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly].””

ISAIAH 61:1 AMP
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed and commissioned me To bring good news to the humble and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up [the wounds of] thebrokenhearted, To proclaim release [from confinement and condemnation] to the [physical and spiritual] captives And freedom to prisoners,”
