SERMON NOTES

Imagine this scene: a man of around 35 has been to a men’s movement weekend. While away
he realizes that he’s never told his father he loves him, so he decides when he gets home he’ll
do it. He gets home, picks up the phone and calls home. Dad answers the phone.

“Hi Dad, it’s me.”

“Oh, um, hi son! I’ll go get your mother…”

“No don’t get mom. It’s you I want to talk to.”

There’s a pause then, “Why? Do you need money.”

“No, dad. It’s just I’ve been remembering a lot about you, Dad, and the things you did for me,
working all those years to put me through college, supporting us. My life is going well now and
it’s because of what you did to get me started. I just thought about it and realized I’d never really said ‘Thanks…’”

Silence on the other end of the phone. The son continues “I want to tell you thanks, and that I love you.”

“Son, you been drinking?…”

So many have been told thank you and many don’t know how to receive thanks.

We Can Thank God More Than Once

Little Jenny sat down to eat dinner with her family. She looked at the leftovers and said, “Hey, wait a minute. We thanked God for this last night!”

Just because we’ve thanked God once for something doesn’t mean we can’t thank Him again.

Kent Crocke

Be grateful for what you have and stop complaining – it bores everybody else, does you no good, and doesn’t solve any problems.
Zig Ziglar

Often people ask how I manage to be happy despite having no arms and no legs. The quick answer is that I have a choice. I can be angry about not having limbs, or I can be thankful that I have a purpose. I chose gratitude.
Nick Vujicic

I can be angry about not having whatever, or I can be thankful that I have. I choose gratitude.
Everyday we make choices and how we look at what we see is how we will think and feel which will lead to how we act, react or behave.

“in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 THESSALONIANS 5:18 AMP

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV

“and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NCV

“Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 MSG

Thanks and Giving it is so much more than an attitude. It’s deeper than most people realize.
You turn on the news so much oppression. Social media see many so complaining about our world and life. I think people need a revival of thanksgiving, not turkey and mashed potatoes. Complaining and being so unthankful or ungrateful is like an epidemic.

In the nature of man, man is by nature Selfish, self-centered, self consumed. Thankful comes from deep inside a person. Thankful is spiritual. This is probably why many are not very thankful.

“Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18 AMP

Verse 16 says, “Rejoice always and delight in your faith.”

Most people are looking for things, people, stuff to be before they are thankful. Like the little girl when eating leftovers. Why thank God again, was her response.

Thanks starts inside you. When you remember that Christ died for you so you can live, when you remember all the lives lost so you live in a free country.

Thankful is Spiritual it starts on the inside of us. Verse 16 says, “Rejoice always and delight in your faith.”

Rejoice means: : to feel or show joy or happiness. To feel or show joy or happiness. Gods Word says Rejoice Always. This was not when everything feels good or is perfect.

It is a command. Rejoice Always. To feel or show joy or happiness. This is has nothing to do with what you have in your bank account or what you got or do not have.

This is based on Spiritual Choices based on God, Jesus and Your Faith. I can choose to see joy and happiness. I must train myself.

Paul was chained down deep in the bottom of a dungeon and tortured yet he is recorded as to be singing and praising God. Sharing his faith to the jailers.
You can not be thankful is you are looking for things to be perfect or certain way.
Rejoice Always and delight in your faith. Delight in your faith.

Delight means, “: a strong feeling of happiness : great pleasure or satisfaction
: something that makes you very happy : something that gives you great pleasure or satisfaction.
It says Rejoice Always and Delight in your faith. I am spiritual. My faith gives me great pleasure and satisfaction.

We get faith mixed up sometimes. Delight in your faith. When you do this serving God, loving God, giving to God is a pleasure and not a burden or chore. When we are looking at what we are doing or giving we no longer see what Jesus did or gave us. This is where people say they are burned out or they need to step down or step back. Everyday I wake up and thank God for the air I breathe, I thank God for the life I live, I thank Him for my purpose.

Thankful people are great full people they are committed people. They are God, Jesus focused people.

I have some great friends and leaders in my life. My friend Mike Rovner and his wife Janet they are very thankful and grateful believers. They own a huge construction company, and day spa. Hundreds and hundreds of employees. They are so active in there church, they teach classes, they are involved in there community, they are committed to preaching the gospel, on and on they give and serve. They do not complain. Janet teaches in the nursery on an ongoing basis.

Why do people serve like this, give like this, live the lives they do????? They are Spiritual, they are Thankful To God In Everything.

“Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18 AMP

Rejoicing Always, Delighting in Your Faith, Be unceasing and persistent in prayer.

Here is the formula for Real Honest to Goodness Thankfulness.

Be unceasing and persistent in prayer. This is not asking God for things over and over, it is living vibrant relationship. When you stop communicating with a spouse or family it is over. You begin to drift or move away.

I have seen people who forget about what Jesus did for them, they get drawn into stuff, get closer to people who are not close to God or Jesus and they become like them.

“As the deer pants [longingly] for the water brooks, So my soul pants [longingly] for You, O God. My soul (my life, my inner self) thirsts for God, for the living God. When will I come and see the face of God?”
PSALM 42:1-2 AMP

IN EVERY SITUATION NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES BE THANKFUL AND CONTINUALLY GIVE THANKS TO GOD.
THE ONLY WAY TO DO THIS IS YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE TO DO THE FIRST PART. YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE TO REJOICE ALWAYS, YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE DELIGHTING IN YOUR FAITH, YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE TO BE UNCEASING AND PERSISTENT IN PRAYER. WHEN THIS IS YOUR LIFE STYLE NOT SUNDAY MORNING OR WHEN YOU GET TROUBLE, LIFESTYLE THEN YOU CAN BE THANKFUL IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES AND CONTINUALLY GIVING THANKS TO GOD.
