Sermon Notes

When i think of back to the basics, I think of the great football coach who ever year he would start of the new football season with his new team. Vince Lombardi would sit every one down and hold up a football for everyone to see and say “This is a Football.”

It seemed funny and even stupid but he was stressing a point. When you move a way from the basics to build or create something you will miss the mark.

GOING BACK TO THE BASICS STRENGTHENS YOUR FOUNDATION.

EVERYTHING IN LIFE GOES BACK TO THE BASICS.

WITH GOOD BASICS YOU WILL HAVE ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES.

YOUR SOURCE OF STRENGTH COMES FROM YOUR FOUNDATION. STAY GROUNDED, FOCUSED, AND BELIEVE GOD.

When I went into the military at 17 going on 18 I was for sent to a place called BASIC TRAINING OR BOOTCAMP.

Back to Basics is like going back and looking and remembering our basic foundations.

Every builder knows the quality and condition of your house will be determined by your foundation. Our Foundation is built on Jesus Christ on His Words and Ways.

““Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not practice what I tell you? Everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words and obeys them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a [far-sighted, practical, and sensible] man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and yet could not shake it, because it had been securely built and founded on the rock. But the one who has [merely] heard and has not practiced [what I say], is like a [foolish] man who built a house on the ground without any foundation, and the torrent burst against it; and it immediately collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.””
LUKE 6:46-49 AMP

Imagine this house is your personal life, your family, your marriage, your salvation, your business, anything you build will have a foundation.

The Rock was Jesus and it was solid. The house was safe, solid and it supplied protection, security, it was awesome. The sand was shifting and not solid. It was loose and the house that was built on sand had some issues. Point, it takes some storms some really tough ones to expose what you are built on. When hard times come and trials are hitting and all hell is breaking loose you will show the world and God what you are built upon.

The foundation is Jesus and this is for the person that has excepted and received what Jesus did for them, on the cross as well as risen from the dead. This is for the person who has chosen to be a believer and follower of Christ.

Storms will come, one house will fall and the other will stand. One will be gone and the other will endure. We see this with so many people. They come get saved and excited and then down the road when the storms hit they are destroyed.

God wants us all to succeed. God wants us all to be and stay with Him. He even says that none should perish. God wants everyone to win. God wants everyone to finish her or his race and end with God.

Truth there will be those who started but did not stay strong and the error is usually in the basic foundations. Its like when you were dating. Man i was so sweet and kind and patient with my new girl friend. I ate here bad cooking and called it awesome. She ruined my designer clothes and i just chuckled. She could do not wrong. Respect, honor, love, serving her, protecting her, adoring her, I stayed wishing a breath of her. All I wanted to do was be with her and in her presence. I remember many a freezing nights standing in freezing snow and rain in Japan on phone outside in the rain and sleet and snow just to hear the sound of her voice.

This is what i did in the beginning. Over time we stop doing the basics. The beautiful amazing dating is gone. We stop doing the foundational basics that created life, faith, joy, peace and power in the relationship.

When a new believer gets saved, repents and receives Christ has their Savior the foundations must be learned and then do them.

Becoming and belonging to a church body/family.
Bible Study, reading, studying, and learning to follow Gods Word
Prayer, building your relationship with God daily, intimate conversations. Fasting
Baptism
Giving, tithing/offerings. Spiritual Stewardship.
Sharing your faith. Witnessing

These are the basics. Every Christian should be doing these. We should be living these basic truths everyday. Here is what happens, we start out building our life in Christ and we don’t see these necessary or important.

These are basic characteristics and basic foundations for living a Christian Life.

Becoming and belonging to a church body/family. This is so under attack today. Many of these basic foundations have been attacked and been cast aside by people. Think when first dating, who you treated the one you loved, or how you expected to be treated by the one that loved you. How you acted and how you believed, and you treated them then and now.

We get lazy. We get stagnant and we start to act just like teenagers. The most dangerous time in a teens life is when they are between child and adult. When they think they know more or better than the parents. They will choose to do or act in a certain way and its get them into huge trouble. Or if they have no foundation, they just start building a life on lies, or deceit, or cheating, compromise.

Belonging to a church, is like being in a family. The lord refers to the church as the body, family,,fold like for sheep, assembly, church.

We live a generation where people are not wanting to be committed. Commitment is really tough today. We live in a generation where people would much live together, cheat together, but not commits together. Commitment means something. Till death do us part.

This spirit has slipped into the church. We have people referring to the church as ORGANIZED RELIGION. Its really sad because some church’s messed up for others. I see the church like a family. In our family we do not agree all the time, times we don’t like eachother, but we are still family. We will come together, we support eachother, we will help eachother, and we can not get ride of the family institution just because we have been hurt by the family.

“and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.”
HEBREWS 10:24-25 AMP

The Bible refers to the church as the body of Christ. My feet and hands and head are all attached and working together. I used the words ATTACHED. Many are not attached, they are floaters. In order to grow we need to find our family and body and commit and attach. This is where we will grow and flourish, and be developed.

Imagine young teens who don’t have an attached family. They just float here and there. They have no real family or home. They really do not BELONG anywhere. They grow up without any parents or guardians. No one to guide them or instruct them, no teachers or protectors.

People that are not attached or connected to a family or body are really alone and isolated. The real reason for this response is hurt, rejection, pain. Think when you been hurt it takes time before you will trust again, submit again, believe again, etc.

The world tries to throw the power of the family of God and body of God, the Assembly of God, The flock of God out because a body failed them or hurt them.

“Therefore, I strongly urge the elders among you [pastors, spiritual leaders of the church], as a fellow elder and as an eyewitness [called to testify] of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory that is to be revealed: shepherd and guide and protect the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not [motivated] for shameful gain, but with wholehearted enthusiasm; not lording it over those assigned to your care [do not be arrogant or overbearing], but be examples [of Christian living] to the flock [set a pattern of integrity for your congregation]. And when the Chief Shepherd (Christ) appears, you will receive the [conqueror’s] unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you younger men [of lesser rank and experience], be subject to your elders [seek their counsel]; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another [tie on the servant’s apron], for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD [the disdainful, the presumptuous, and He defeats them], BUT HE GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].”
1 PETER 5:1-7 AMP

Here is example of church order, organized family or body. Organized family is much better than an unorganized family. That is called dysfunctional. See the spirit behind not belonging submitting to a family or body DYSFUNCTIONAL DESTINY.

You can and will go to Heaven, but you will be a mess down here.

Church is where we grow just as a family, you watch, care for your children, protect them, teach them responsibility, respect, God, teach and develop their gifts and talents and in time you release them to grow and build and teach their family.

“Then [in the final time] I will give you [spiritual] shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and [true] understanding.”
JEREMIAH 3:15 AMP
