Sermon Notes

What you put in the quality of anything will effect the performance of everything. Think about it, the type of gasoline. They have different grades, we know it as the cheapest. But cars with higher performance engines have to have higher grade gasoline. Yvonne little Mini Cooper is made by BMW and has to have higher grade gas. It is made to have better performance.

Our bodies use food as fuels, we fill up on junk food and it effects the way our body performed, our energy levels can and will be up or down based on what we fill up with.

Our mind is no different. What we put in effects our output. What we allow to come into our mind/heart will produce energy or lack of it. It will produce creativity or the lack of it, It will produce joy, love and peace or the lack of it.

I read this article talking about words and images and which one gets into our self faster.

In a race, text just can’t compete with images. It makes sense. After all, we don’t even possess the innate cognitive ability to process words. It’s an entirely more advanced process our brains have to work through. At birth, a baby understands the image of his or her mother months before being able to understand what the word mommy means. We understand images instantly. We have to work to process text and words.
In fact, the brain processes images 60,000 times faster than it does text.

Words and Images are what we take in or feed our thoughts.

“Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23 AMPC

Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.” Proverbs 4:23 NCV

“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” Proverbs 4:23 GNB

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 KJV

Look at the intensity of this word. Keep, guard, careful what you think, careful how you think, keep your heart with all diligence. This is an intense command.

The quality of our life will be or not be based on our thoughts. What we allow to take shelter or residence in your mind will become the controller of your life, marriage, ministry, business, health, etc.

Through mobile phones, the Internet, electronic mail, television, radio, newspapers, books etc. people receive every day about 105,000 words or 23 words per second in half a day (12 hours) (during awake hours). Although people can not really read these 105,000 words each day, this is the real number estimated to be reaching the human eyes and ears every day. After adding pictures, videos, games, etc., we reach the volume of 34 gigabytes of information per day on average.

We are bombarded with information. What is it doing to us? How is what you allow affecting you? We all say it does nothing but that is not true. Negative creates negative. Positive creates positive. Fear will not create faith.
What you put in will create your performance or lack of it in any and all areas of your life.

Poem: “Keeper of the Keys.”
You are the Keeper of The Keys.
You are the Guard at the Gate.
Waiting in line to get through that doer
Is Love. And also Hate.
In line to enter is GENTLE PEACE.
And also VIOLENT WAR.
You must choose who may, and who
May not come through the door.
INTOLERANCE tries to sneak on through
On wings of FEAR, or PRIDE.
It hides behind DREAMS OF BELONGING,
And tries to sneak inside.
Oh! Be Alert! You’re the Guard who decides
Who GOES and who may STAY.
You are THE KEEPER of THE KEYS to YOUR MIND.
Who will you let in today???????
I can watch a movie and it makes me cry. You can watch a commercial about pizza and you get hungry. You can hear a song and it takes you back into your past and memory.

Most people grow up with no control of what gets into our mind/hearts.

When the army of Israel seen Goliath it was his size, his words that stopped them and caused fear to be created in them. This image and words created fear which effected their performance. They did nothing. They were afraid. Fear breading fear, stuck, immobilized, paralyzed.

When they seen David kill Goliath and cut off his head they were now filled with courage, boldness, power. The image and words created a new performance.

There is a classic book written in 1682 called, “The Holy War” by John Bunyan. It is an allegory. It is a story of the castle trying to be overthrown and the city was called, “Mansoul.” The gates were our five senses, the eyes, ears, mouth, nose, touch.

The reason the urgency to keep, guard, was the enemy will use these gates to try enter in.

“And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude],”. Ephesians 4:23 AMPC

Keeping guard and throwing out the images and words that are there to steal, kill and destroy you and your destiny. We have to have bouncers guarding our heart.

Taking out the trash. Taking a mental inventory. Be aware of what your letting in. The music, the movies, the words what people speak to you, on and on. Just being aware of what is not good for your peak performance.

The enemy enticed Eve with the fruit, and words. Images and words created a negative and false picture and she took it.
The Israelites when God said go posses the Land that He gave them, seen an image and put words to it. We can’t, giants and they will destroy us. Who cares what God said, They seen and listened to their fears. They even compared themselves to grasshoppers.

“And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:24 AMPC

Put on is like take off the old dirty clothes and put on the fresh clean ones just out of the dryer.

I remember as a kid taking a shower and wanting to put back on my dirty clothes. New man/woman must have new nature. New You.

“When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.”
Ephesians 4:26 AMPC

We all will get angry. Angry is not the sin, keeping it, holding it deep inside us, harboring bitterness, is the sin. It is what it does to us when we hold on to it. It changes us for the worse, but it also opens doors for the enemy to attack us our minds and lives.

“Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].” Ephesians 4:27 AMPC

“Do not give the devil a way to defeat you.” Ephesians 4:27 NCV

Foothold is a military term. When the armies would storm the beaches and the soldiers would land on the beach and they would run and find a place to lay and wait, they would dig in and wait. Wait for an opportunity to advance. This is what the enemy does, we let him hang around with our anger, bitterness, and unforgivness. We are being set up for destruction.

Images and Words. God also uses them to move you forward.

“indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies [as conquerors]. Through your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have heard and obeyed My voice.””
GENESIS 22:17-18 AMP

Abraham and God walking together and God gives him an image of stars and sand on the seashore reminder of Gods Promise. Every time Abraham became weary in well doing or tired or fearful he could look up and look down and see an image given by his God and remember Gods Promise. God gave him an images and paired it with His Word or Promises to keep this high octane fuel to move Abraham forward into His destiny.

Remember the Rainbow, was an image given with a word. Never again a flood. Mercy and forgiveness.

The Arc of the Covenant was filled with two tablets of law, known as the Ten Commandments, Aaron’s rod which budded, and a golden jar filled with Manna. Gods spirit was here as well as images and His words, promises.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.”
Joshua 1:8 AMPC

Image and Word.
