Sermon Notes

Someone said there are no losers, just winners and quitters.

Coming into the new year you have to decide how this year is going to be. If you want something better this year then your going to have to do something different.

Different!!! I am not talking politics but this year proved the country wanted some real change. It caught many people by surprise.

Quitting and complaining will not change things. We are called as believers and disciples of Jesus Christ to pray for those in authority. This is our duty as believers.

I have seen grown people acting like children who lost the game. Angry, hissy fits, temper tantrums, I quit.

We all go thru challenges, we all will be faced with hardships and trials but how we deal with what happens to us will determine what we receive.

I love to be around winners. I love to be around people who in the midst of hardships talk faith and believe the best is yet to come.

I love to here testimonies of how people went thru hell and high water and still kept their faith and their faith grew stronger. We all love to see Jehova God come thru for people.

What happens when we are going thru hardships and it seems to last and we pray, we cry out, we fast, we quote scripture, we serve God and still things seem to not get better?

Ever heard a child yell out it’s not fair. I remember teaching my kids and grandkids that life is not fair. There are times in life when you and I will face things that will seem unfair. My friends wife died of cancer and she prayed for many ladies who got healed, but she died. That seems unfair.

Unfair!!! Faith is not so you don’t have to go thru any thing. Faith does not stop things from happening to us. Faith gets us thru to the other side of a trial or hardship.

David was an amazing man of God. He was powerful. He was faithful. He worshipped God. But he also had his moments of weakness and struggle.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? O my God, I call out by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I find no rest nor quiet. But You are holy, O You who are enthroned in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered].”
PSALM 22:1-3 AMP

David is going through stuff. It’s tuff. When you see someone going thru stuff don’t just preach to them. Beat them with the word. Suck it up. We are supposed to be filled with love, grace and compassion.

When a baby falls we race over and rescue the baby. Pick it up and hold it and comfort and love on them. Then we slowly place them back down and to try again.

David is hurting, he is in real pain. He is besides himself. Even though David is messed up he does not really mess up.

He is wrestling within his spirit but he is speaking what he is feeling.

Everyone hates suffering, but the fact is pain changes people.

Pain, suffering, trials, challenges, hurts, disappointments, changes us for the good or not so good. Positive or negative, it’s what you do with yourself when your in it.

It’s not meant to make us weak it’s to make us stronger. When Christians go through pain in life it helps us to get back on the path of righteousness.

I believe God allows stuff to happen in life to buffet you. The stuff is so intense you can run to two directions, to God or away from Him. God is allowing stuff to happen. He is not doing it but He does use the situations and circumstances of life to work great things inside of us for His glory.

I remember a thing called tough love. It’s where you as a parent have to step back and stop rescuing your child and let them experience the pain of their choices, or the hurt of their decisions. They would never learn responsibility, integrity, honesty, and you reap what you so if we protect them from everything, even themselves.

The mother eagle loves her eaglets, but they must grow up and mature and fly off on their own to create their life. They would stay in the nest forever if they could. The mother cuts their food rations in half and now they become so uncomfortable. If they still do not fly she begins to pull all the soft and comfy fluff out and where the sticks and twigs are exposed and poking the baby eaglets. Really, super uncomfortable, but by this time most eaglets fly on their own. In extreme cases they eaglets won’t fly so the mother puts them on her back and flys. She soars and flys and then when she feels the time is right she does a rollover and the eaglet must fly of fall and die.

Cruel, no, love is teaching them to become what they were created to be. This process is God causing you and I to obey Him and follow His ways and live His life in this world.

When stuff hits the fan we cry out in pain, hurt, anger, but you must choose to run to God or run away. When we run to God it does something to our flesh and spirit. People who choose not to run to God put their faith in themselves, their money or stuff or talents. They will crash somewhere and it’s usually really hard.

We lose all self-reliance and turn to the only one who can help us. God. Man is either self-reliant or God reliant.

Think of pain while weightlifting. It might hurt, but you are becoming stronger in the process. More weights equals more pain. More pain equals more strength. PROCESS!

QUOTES::::: Pain is temporary quitting lasts forever.

Pain doesn’t just show up in our lives for no reason. It’s a sign that something needs to change.

The pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow.

“One of the main ways we move from abstract knowledge about God to a personal encounter with him as a living reality is through the furnace of affliction.” Tim Keller

“Often, we endure trials seeking God’s deliverance from them. Suffering is painful for us to endure or to see those we love endure. While our instinct is to flee trials, remember that even in the midst of suffering, God’s will is being done.” Paul Chappell

When I am at the gym I see these guys putting more weight and more weight and struggling to lift it. No pain, no gain.

God is healing through the process and you don’t even know it. It might be hard, but we must find joy in pain. How do we do that? We must seek Christ.

“But You are holy, O You who are enthroned in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered]. In You our fathers trusted [leaned on, relied on, and were confident]; They trusted and You rescued them. They cried out to You and were delivered; They trusted in You and were not disappointed or ashamed.”
PSALM 22:3-5 AMP

David is having a fit. Complaining to God. Then he shifts his attitude to one of he remembers his God. The reason we read Gods Word, come to church, pray and talk to God is when the attack begins you must remember what to do or where to run too.

When I was in the military they would do drills over and over and over and over hundreds of times. Many guys thought it was stupid till we had an explosion on the ship. The guys that lived were the ones who remembered the training lessons. Others fall apart and run and quit. We call them deserters.

You and I are in training. If you are cheating or not following His directions your lesson is coming. He loves us. He loves you so He wants you strong, faithful, diligent, obedience, trust, reliance upon the Holy Spirit.

David then reminds God how he seen God help others. God has a good memory. He remembers, but your trial, challenge, hardship is not the same as others. It does you no good to compare God and others. You are special and unique.

“But I am [treated as] a worm [insignificant and powerless] and not a man; I am the scorn of men and despised by the people. All who see me laugh at me and mock me; They [insultingly] open their lips, they shake their head, saying, “He trusted and committed himself to the LORD, let Him save him. Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.””
PSALM 22:6-8 AMP

David shifts back and forth. Feeling sorry for himself. David is doing what we do when in pain and suffering, he speaks over and over his problem and not Gods Word.
David is in the school of life.

“Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.”
GALATIANS 6:9 AMP

Don’t give in or give up. Remember if you cheat in school. You fail or flunk or are kept back in the same grade. Many people are stuck till they obey and do what God says to do.

How can this situation help to make me more like Christ? How can this situation be used to help others? These are the things we have to ask ourselves.

Whether you are in physical or emotional pain seek help and comfort from God, who is our Almighty Healer. Find encouragement from His Word and keep your mind on Him.

He knows what you’re going through and He will help you. The storm doesn’t last forever.
